5 IMPORTANT THINGS TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR CHOICES… Remember that many sectors will include a very wide range of quite different jobs Don’t be surprised if some of your workshops focus on jobs that you weren’t expecting! Choose sectors that interest YOU - don’t be influenced by other people or their choices Do some research before choosing - this resource could help you make good choices You should identify 6 sectors that interest you (as you will need to make a reserve choice, just in case you can’t get all of your top 5 choices)

10 AEROSPACE If you are passionate about aircraft and spacecraft, and want to be involved in their development, this sector could be for you.

11 ANIMAL HEALTH & WELFARE If you love the idea of working with animals, this could be just what you are looking for. You can help to care for or treat animals at veterinary practices, in kennels, zoos, rescue centres or sanctuaries.

12 ARMY There are more than 220 different roles in the Army. Whether you’re interested in combat, medical, engineering, logistics, HR or intelligence, there could be a career for you.

13 AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING If you are passionate about cars and want an engineering career, this sector could be perfect for you. There are options to specialise in any stage of the motor manufacturing process, from the initial vehicle design through to final production.

14 BROADCASTING & MEDIA From journalist to web designer, in this sector you could be working in film, TV, radio or any number of other aspects of media. Some jobs require a specific talent, but often enthusiasm, hard work and experience are just as important.

15 BUILDING PROFESSIONALS The three main areas in building are designing, planning and on- site. From house extensions to high-rise flats, motorways to stadiums, the construction industry relies on a wide range of professionals including architects, planners, surveyors, acoustic engineers and structural engineers.

16 BUILDING TRADES From plumbing and joinery to stonemasonry and roofing, construction is a huge sector with a wide variety of roles. If you're a practical person, are interested in how things work and are put together, construction could be the industry for you.

17 BUSINESS & ADMINISTRATION In the Business sector there are a broad range of jobs and work environments to suit most personalities, and you can progress to many levels and salaries. Roles include human resources, legal secretary, management consultancy and receptionist.

18 HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE If you enjoy helping people and want to make a difference to their lives, this sector could be just what you are looking for. You could work with children, people with physical or learning disabilities, older people or families.

19 CATERING & HOSPITALITY Have you got a passion for food and drink? Whether you want to sell, cook or serve food or drinks there's a job in this sector where you can put your passion into action! You could work in hotels, restaurants or pubs, at tourist attractions, outside events and private parties.

20 COMPUTING Computing includes designing and building hardware and software systems for a wide range of purposes from managing business systems to doing scientific research to designing and producing computer games and developing communications technology. The opportunities in computing are vast.

21 CREATIVE ARTS & CRAFTS The one thing that all jobs in this family have in common is creativity. So if you're an ideas person and you like creating things that are useful and visually appealing, take a look at this sector.

22 DESIGN & GRAPHICS Design is applied to almost all aspects of our lives nowadays, both in terms of function as well as form, and includes ceramics, fashion, furniture, interiors, jewellery, product design, textiles, web design, illustration as well as an enormous range of diverse areas where graphic design expertise is required.

23 EMERGENCY SERVICES The emergency services include fire and rescue services, ambulance services and HM Coastguard, which is responsible for search and rescue at sea. There are also career opportunities in HM Prison Services.

24 ENGINEERING This is a big sector with a wide range of jobs, but many of them involve machines and practical processes. So if you like working with your hands or in processes that involve turning raw materials into products, then you might want to explore this sector.

25 ENVIRONMENTAL & LAND-BASED This is an extremely diverse sector including waste management and water, food production, land management and forestry, animal health and welfare and environment conservation and landscape management.

26 FINANCIAL SERVICES The UK has a large financial services industry with a huge variety of roles in it. You'd expect to need organisational skills, business sense and be good with numbers to do these jobs, but you may also need people skills too.

27 HAIR, BEAUTY & COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES There are three main areas in the hair and beauty sector - Hairdressing, Beauty and Make-up. Perhaps you could run your own business, work in a salon, work overseas or work on cruise ships?

28 LEGAL SERVICES In many jobs in legal services you need an investigative mind and the ability to understand large amounts of information. If this sounds like you and you are interested in justice, then law might be a good sector to explore.

29 LEISURE & TOURISM In the leisure and tourism sector you’d be helping people enjoy their leisure time, whether that’s in a sports centre, a museum, a wedding venue or when they’re on holiday.

30 MEDICINE & NURSING Working in medicine and nursing, you should have an interest in people's health and well-being. For many of these roles you'll also need communication skills, patience and team working skills. If this sounds like you then why not take a closer look at this sector?

31 PERFORMING ARTS In this sector you could be working in music, drama or dance, either performing, teaching or in production/support roles. You could work in the circus, at concert venues or in the theatre. Some jobs require a specific talent, but enthusiasm, hard work and experience are also very important.

32 PRE-SCHOOL & PRIMARY TEACHING The pre-school and primary education sector is a challenging, rewarding and inspiring area in which to work. Many early years teachers and support staff enjoy their work because of the satisfaction that comes from helping young children learn about a subject and start to develop the skills they will rely on later in life.

33 ROYAL AIR FORCE The RAF offers a range of work, training and experiences that you can put to use in building a successful career. Within each RAF job role there is a variety of different kinds of work you could do. As you move from one posting to another, you will have new opportunities to gain skills and experiences.

34 ROYAL NAVY A career in the Royal Navy could involve policing the world's oceans, delivering humanitarian aid or being deployed in combat. No matter what job you do in the Royal Navy, you'll be a key part in operations around the world.

35 SALES & MARKETING From planning an advertising campaign to advising customers on their purchases, these jobs are all about selling goods and services. With many of the jobs it will help if you've got good commercial sense and understand how customers think. In some of the jobs you'll need creativity too, to think of different ways to make your products attractive to people.

36 SCIENCE & MATHS Science and maths are part of our everyday lives, but there are skills shortages in scientific and mathematical careers and some of the most exciting career opportunities of the next five years are predicted to occur in these sectors.

37 SPORT If you’re an active person who enjoys sport there is a range of jobs in this sector you might be interested in, from working in community sport to martial arts, or personal training to sports physiotherapy.

38 SECONDARY & FURTHER EDUCATION TEACHING Many jobs in education are about using your communication skills and knowledge to help people to develop and learn. So whether you want to work with young people in secondary schools, train people in sports, or work in colleges or universities, this is a field where you can use your knowledge and skills to help others.
