1 Jazz Times Masthead: the masthead of Jazz Times is also the logo of the magazine because it does not need a logo and is a very simple name to work out on what the magazine is all about; Jazz music in america. Underneath the masthead is a small superlative that has a very simple touch to extend the title that also contrasts with the colour pallette of the main image. Main Cover Image: A black and white main image which would suggest that the readers of the magazine are older members of society, this point is also suggested by the main image itself which is a photo of Frank Sinatra who is an all time great singer from the swing era. His singing career started in 1935 and would conclude my point in saying that his audience is that of an older type. In fact just jazz in general is a type of music to be loved by an older audience because of artists such as Frank Sinatra. Sweet Spot: Frank’s name is the featured name for the sweet spot article which is also implied that he is a very popular artist for this niche audience. This also leads to people reading the artists underneath the huge font of ‘Sinatra’ which is suggested that these artists sing songs that are sung by these up and coming artists, this also suggests these artists sing jazz or anything from the swing era. Main Cover Line: The main cover line is about Frank sinatra that is placed in the sweet spot as I mentioned; the name Sinatra is widely known throughout the musical community in general as one of the greatest artists of Jazz and fundamentally changed music of the era. It also features other known names of a more current time that discuss Frank as one of their topics on the ‘Great American Singer’ show as they were interviewed. The name at the start of the title was meant to draw the audience in because of the widely known name and is more interested to look and see what these artists discuss about Frank SInatra. Cover Lines: The secondary cover line is meant to give more information about the information inside of the magazine about the other headlines that are featured. For example ‘The Psychology of Bandleading’ is a very informative name that doesn’t need any introductions because it discusses what is mentioned in the title by other band leaders. The Annual Farewells feature is a less informative title but still mentioned what is going to be talked about; the songs of specific artists more currently known.

2 Jazz Times Graphics: ●Font & Size: The font style is very sharp and very like the style of Jazz, it goes well with the masthead because of it’s simple and sharp appeal to the font. The magazine has 4 fonts in total that it uses: The masthead font, the cover line (secondary) font content, the title ‘The Annual Farewells feature’ that is also used on the name ‘Chucho Vald’es’ and the ‘Pus’ Section name is a completely different font on it’s own. The number of fonts is meant to represent the diversity of the articles within the magazine and the fonts that are considered to be older looking because of the simplicity of them, for example the ‘Plus’ Section is a font that is similar to that of fonts used in other magazines of the 1940’s and adverts of the same time period, for example car adverts such as Corvette and Chevrolet would use this font and would also be used to relate to the audience such as JazzTimes is also using this method with this title. ●Colour Palette: The colour palette of the magazine are very lightly faded primary colours (apart from green) and is used to give some character to the page. The lightly faded colours would suggest that the audience do not like brighter more vibrant colours so the magazine was adapted to meet the needs of the audience. The main image perfectly contrasts with the masthead because the masthead is white and the colour palette of the main image is black and white which gives the magazine an older feel to show the time period of where the main image came from. ●Layout: The layout of the page is very much of a typical magazine, the sweet spot is occupied by the main cover title and has a secondary cover title on the bottom right of the page, it also has a plug at the top of the page, this magazine is no different in the way it portrays itself to it’s audience and only does so in a different way because of the audience type; an older audience.

3 Jazz Times Demographic Profile and psychographic profile: ●Demographic: simply the demographic for the magazine would be more national than anything because of it’s niche audience and it is ‘America's Jazz Magazine’. This type of magazine would be seen in bars and on the shelves of convenience stores, there would be an online site but about 20% would use the online site so there is no need for an extension of information. ●Psychographic: I think that the audience would be that of the Personal identity category of readers with this profile, judging on the magazine type and what it contains there seems to be many variously famous names on the magazine, this would like lead to suggest that the audience like ‘big stars that appears on the magazine, readers will be either people who dreams of being successful or is trying to do so and sees the magazine as a source of inspiration.’ This is because of the identity of the people reading and the stars that are mentioned that are tailored specifically to this magazine were very famous when they were alive and in america jazz and ‘swing’ jazz was very popular and people that grew up with that type of music will like this magazine because of the nostalgia factor.
