From the collisions of molecules within our cells to the inner workings of a refrigerator, this course will help us all to better appreciate the natural laws by which our physical world operates, which in turn provides the platform for the magnificent processes of life. Encompasses 2 main scientific disciplines Physical Science an area of science that deals with the study of the inorganic world, materials that are not alive, and the ways in which nonliving things work

Topics / Content Learning takes place via labs (physical & virtual simulated), demonstrations, direct instruction, reading & writing. *Safety Procedures, Lab equipment & skills, Measurements, what is Science? *Practice of Science & Scientific investigations * Introduction & properties of matter * Physical and Chemical changes of matter * States of matter & pure substances and mixtures * The Atom & the Periodic Table * Waves and properties of waves, EM spectrum * Interactions of light & transformation of energy * Energy conservation, temperature, thermal energy and heat * kinetic and potential energy, motion and speed and acceleration * forces and gravity and motion

Parent contact Step 1 Goes in phone jail (on teacher’s desk), will be given back to student end of class.

Bathroom Break Policy Bathroom breaks can be distracting in a classroom environment. Please use the restroom before and or after classes. All bathroom visits during class will require student’s phone or any item of possession in absence of phone, signature, the date & time in and out. Students who exceed 3 passes will NOT receive 10 points towards lowest quiz grade (20%)

Tardiness Policy After the second bell, students must bring a late / tardy pass from security. NO Exceptions unless granted by teacher. Doors will be locked! Disruption to class without pass will result in disciplinary actions. Late Assignments 11 points will be deducted from student’s assignment grade, each day it is turned in late. Make up work ( excused and unexcused absences) It is students responsibility to make up work that was missed. Make-up work is allowed for full credit and grade for excused absences. Make-up work is allowed for unexcused absences, however, there is a 10% reduction in the grade for homework, and a 60% will be the highest grade earned for tests and major projects that meet standards or proficiency. All make-up work must be submitted within two days, not including the day of return, for each day of an absence. Previously assigned work is due the day of return.

Textbook & Notebook Policy Science notebooks & Textbooks must be brought to class each day. Students who do not have their notebook will sign a log and after three will receive a detention.

Additional Polices & Procedures 1. Entering the classroom: You must enter the classroom before the second bell rings. Come in quietly and place your homework on your desk. Take out your binder and begin the bell work. If the room is set up to do a lab, DO NOT touch or play with any the materials unless given permission to do so. 2. Exiting the classroom for dismissal : Prior to leaving the classroom, you must make sure that all classroom materials are put away properly, your area is clean and all papers are off the floor. Students will not be dismissed until authorized by Teacher. 3. Movement within the classroom: Students will be told what type of movement is allowed for each activity each day 4. Students are expected to complete homework and have it ready for the following class period. If they are absent the class prior it is their responsibility to obtain their makeup. You have one day for every day that you were out to make up the classwork and homework. Unexcused late work will be graded with a late penalty (Dropping down one grade level). All homework assignments are posted on a weekly basis on my website. Homework Due date will always be due on a B day!!!!!!

Polices & Procedures 6. Absenteeism: All tests and quizzes should be made up within five school days. It is the student’s responsibility to get the notes and missing work at the beginning or end of class. They should not interrupt lectures to ask for missing work. 7. Drills: Students must orderly walk to the back field and stand in a line quietly behind the teacher until told to reenter the classrooms. Those students who get lost will receive a consequence. 9. Turning in work : Pass all papers to the front. People at the front should pass papers to the right. The last person should bring all of the papers to the teacher’s desk. Or, to the person assigned to this job. At certain times activities in notebooks will be graded. Students will be responsible for holding onto their notebooks, until collected. The notebooks will be randomly collected for a grade so it is important to stay up to date with any and all work. Any work turned in with no name will not be graded. 10. Tests & Exams: Upon completion of an exam or quiz students should raise their hand and the teacher will collect these items. Students must remain quiet until all students are finished. Students are expected to bring in a book to read quietly if completed before others in class. 11. Cheating: Students must be honorable and do their own work.
