3 Coach Dankosky Over 34 years coaching basketball 22 Years at WSB Radio – Sportscaster, Producer, Reporter Braves, Falcons, UGA, Atlanta Hawks Broadcast Team Worked with some of the best players and in the history o General Manger of the Neal Boortz and Clark Howard Show NBA Scout with the Los Angeles Lakers (Pat Riley years) 2000 State Championship at Marist 10 th Year as a Special Ed Teacher Started the program at Milton - 2007 Runner Up at Milton (2 State Championships) 2012 National High School All American Championship Coach – South Team Over 60 players who have gone on to college or pros. Rebuilt program at South Forsyth HS after the school was split. 6 players in college. Hobbies include travel, comedy writing, marketing and volunteering.

5 Meet the Returning Staff Rick Smith Associate Head Coach Operations Director Coach Smith is entering his 38th year of coaching youth athletics. He is regarded as one of the best skill development coaches in metro Atlanta. Entering his third year at Dunwoody H.S. Derek Smith JV Head Coach/Varsity Asst Team Trainer Coach Smith is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He played basketball and ran track in college. He likes to play video games in his spare time. Entering his second year coaching at Dunwoody H.S. DeMarcus Hill 9 th Grade Head Coach Varsity Assistant A former head coach at Githens Middle School (NC), DeMarcus Hill is in his 1st year at Dunwoody. Hill lead the Raiders to two back to back winning seasons. Hill also served as a head, and assistant coach for the Durham Bullz Allstarz AAU team (NC). A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Hill graduated from Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology, and attended North Carolina Central University (NCCU) where he played football for four seasons. While at NCCU, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems in 2012

6 Meet the Staff Robert Hickey Assistant Coach Community Ambassador Wife and family have lived in Dunwoody almost 40 Years. Kids and grandkids have attended DHS and played basketball here. Played basketball at Alabama 3 year starter and letterman. Beat UNC, UK, VT, FSU, Auburn, & UT Coran Crigler Assistant Coach Video Tape Coordinator Coran returns to DHS after a year as Assistant Coach at Georgia Perimeter College He’s been an HS assistant for several years including time with Coach D at South Forsyth. Coran played basketball at DePaul University (Chicago)

9 Program Progress VARSITY - Much more competitive team. -Two of the top three academic honors in the county. Ten straight A players. -All Region, All County Player, Player of the Month honors on Varsity -Upset opponent in our first round playoff game (Creekside) -Both seniors awarded college scholarships. A third if you include Zaire. -Major minutes for several underclassmen JV and VARSITY - Both teams continued their improvement record wise from the previous year. GREAT SUMMER -Made it to the championship game at UTC Camp. -Began new BASKETBALL ACADEMY program (on and off court instruction) -Won 25 games out of 34 played (Varsity) ESTABLISHED A BOOSTER CLUB (Dunwoody Tip Off Club) Parent/Player/Head Coach Meetings + Earlier Practice Times (Gym Space)

10 Program Progress -Joined the Chamber of Commerce -Added more social events to team calendar – Team Building/Holiday Party -Parent Socials -Assisted Teachers During Pre Planning -Can Food Drive -Youth Camp at DBC for underprivileged kids during Christmas -Added National Anthem before games. -Summer Youth Camp – over 80 kids -Starting ground work for Feeder Program

11 New This Year …… New Region 7-AAAAAA CHATTAHOOCHEE – NORTH ATLANTA – NORTHVIEW – CAMBRIDGE – POPE CENTENNIAL – ALPHARETTA – JOHNS CREEK - DUNWOODY 8 th Grade Feeder Program (YMCA League + skills + practice) Expanded 9 th grade schedule with 18 games + tournament. NEW Shooting Machine for morning workouts/practices Team Video Editing Manager (looking for a person to do this) Was elected Region Director by coaches in the region. New Audio System in Gym!! Gym Remodel Project by next school year

13 Basketball at DHS FACTS -We have the fewest spots and the most trying out for the spots. -Have nearly 100 signed up for 40 spots. -Making a team requires specialized skills, outstanding conditioning, high basketball IQ and the ability to be coached.

15 Basketball Is Year Round AUG to OCT – Fall Opportunities Strength, Agility, Plyometrics and Conditioning - CAPS (Mon/Tue/Thrs) Small Group Work /2 on 1s (Wed/Fri) Large Group Fundamentals (if attended) Fall League(s) – Varisty and maybe sub varsity if wanted OCT to FEB – Regular Season (Tryouts Oct 31 and Nov 1) Players expected to be at ALL team events. COMMITMENT MAR to MAY – Spring Opportunities Small Group Workouts / Open Gym AAU Weight Room / Nutrition – ALL YEAR JUNE – ALL BASKETBALL (team camps, practices, and leagues) JULY – OFF MONTH / AAU plays / FAMILY VACATIONS

16 CAPS – Conditioning/Agility/Plyometrics and Strength Each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 3:30 to 5:30 Participation is mandatory to participate in Fall League games and is expected for everyone trying out for a regular season position (unless playing a Fall Sport).

18 2 on 1s Coach and Two Players Wednesday and Friday after school Rotating schedule based on who is signed up. 3:15 to 4:15 Only those attending CAPS and who played on the Varsity team last years and participated in Summer Opportunities will be scheduled for these sessions. Schedule will be posted outside coaches office on Monday

20 FALL LEAGUE TEAM(S) As of now, we only have one fall league team for VARSITY (at Chattahoochee) This year’s team will be coached by Coach Moye Games on Saturday morning – practice one night a week TBD Will take a maximum of 12 players consisting of returning Summer varsity players with any spots decided by the coaches based on positional need. Cost will be around $100 per player. IF there is enough interest, we can field a team for those who played on 9 th /JV last year and want the opportunity. SEE ME AFTER this meeting. We’d need at least 15 players for this team. Need deposit check from you by Friday $100. All checks payable to the DHS Tip Off Club.

21 SKILLS SESSIONS OPEN GYM FOR ALL PLAYERS WHO ARE TRYING OUT Sunday Nights (6pm to 8pm) We will bring in a VERY GOOD skills coach to run these sessions. We must have the commitment first! Cost will be determined by number of participants. $20 per session at minimum with a six week commitment - PREPAID

22 Runs parallel to the high school season but doesn’t interfere with Middle School Tryouts to find the best 6 th, 7 th and 8 th graders in Dunwoody Starting with an 8 th grade team this year. Purpose: Begin exposure to the High School System of play Improve individual fundamentals Increase strength and conditioning Which will: Increase the abilities of players coming to the middle school and high school teams. ULTIMATE GOAL – like Volleyball to have a 6 th, 7 th and 8 th grade boys and girls program. They start them now in 3 rd grade!!!

24 PLAYER COMMITMENT CODE In addition to adhering to all DeKalb County and Dunwoody High School student rules and code of conduct, all Dunwoody High School Boys Basketball players be committed to a higher of commitment and excellence. Each player MUST: 1. Be academically eligible. 2. Attend all team functions. 3. Communicate properly with coaches when late, sick or injured. 4. Be respectful to EVERYONE. 5. Put the TEAM first. 6. Maintain a proper appearance on and off the court. 7. Be responsible for equipment and uniforms. 8. Display good sportsmanship at all times. 9. Be engaged in the process – practice and games. 10. Leave facilities better than when arrived. 11. Ride the bus and be focused on the bus. 12. Learn about NCAA Registry – Register NOW!!!! 13. Talk to the Coach 14. Know the consequences (conditions) 15. Have fun.

25 2017 Tryouts Dates Monday Oct 31 and Tuesday Nov 1 10 th, 11 th, 12 th Graders 3:30p to 5:30p 9 th Graders 7:30p to 9:00p 1 st Cuts posted Wed Nov 2 nd at Noon FALL SPORT PARTICIPANTS (unless released by their head coaches to tryout with everyone else) will be given a two hour tryout the first SATURDAY morning following the LAST football game. There will only be a limited number of spots available at that time based on regular tryouts.
