3 What does the term wellness mean? Wellness doesn’t mean not being sick. Wellness is a dynamic process of change and growth. There are many recognized and interrelated dimensions of wellness such as: Physical, Social, Emotional, Spiritual, Occupational, Intellectual, and Environmental. All the dimension are crucial to the pursuit of wellness.

4 The 3 Main Domains of Wellness Physical- Mental/Emotional - Social

5 Physical Wellness involves aspects of life that are necessary to keep yourself in top condition. Optimal physical wellness is developed through the combination of beneficial physical activity/exercise and healthy eating habits.

6 Remember these two tenets of physical wellness: 1. It is better to consume foods and beverages that enhance good health than those that impair it. 2. It is better to be physically fit than out of shape. Physical Wellness

7 Mental/Emotional Wellness gives you the ability to get through the rigors of life. Some aspects of mental/emotional wellness include self-acceptance, self-confidence, self-control, and trust. Mental/Emotional wellness involves the ability to deal with stress, the ability to be flexible, and your attitude toward yourself and life in general. An important step you can take to maintain emotional wellness is to build confidence. Each person has unique abilities and weaknesses. Accepting your strengths and weaknesses and doing the best with what you have can help build self- confidence.

8 Remember these tenets of emotional wellness: 1.It is better to be aware of and accept your feelings than to deny them. 2.It is better to be optimistic in your approach to life than pessimistic. Mental/Emotional Wellness

9 Social Wellness refers to one's ability to interact with people around them. It involves using good communications skills, having meaningful relationships, respecting yourself and others, and creating a support system that includes family members and friends.

10 Social Wellness Remember these tenets of social wellness: It is better to contribute to the common welfare of your community than to think only of yourself. It is better to live in harmony with others and your environment than to live in conflict with them.

11 Other Domains of Wellness Spiritual- Occupational- Environmental-Financial

12 Spiritual Wellness is a personal matter involving values and beliefs that provide a purpose in our lives. Spiritual wellness is a set of guidelines that helps a person enjoy principles, values, beliefs, that are important to a person life. Some people use a religion to help them develop spiritual wellness.

13 Remember these tenets of spiritual wellness: 1.It is better to ponder the meaning of life for yourself and to be tolerant of the beliefs of others than to close your mind and become intolerant. 2.It is better to live each day in a way that is consistent with your values and beliefs than to do otherwise and feel untrue to yourself. 14 Occupational Wellness may not play a huge role in some peoples life because they are not old enough to understand or be affected by this. Someone with occupational wellness is satisfied with their job, recognized my managers & bosses, has feelings of achievement, and has opportunities to be challenged and grow in their occupation.

15 Remember these tenets of occupational wellness: 1.It is better to choose a career that is consistent with your personal values, interests, and beliefs than to select one that is unrewarding for you. 2.It is better to develop functional, transferable skills through structured involvement opportunities than to remain inactive and uninvolved Occupational Wellness

16 Activity Create a personal wellness wheel. You may use as many aspects of wellness that currently impact your life. In each wheel section you must have images that represent that section personally for you. Ex: Physical Wellness- you can include pictures of any physical activity you participate in or healthy eating habits you may have etc.
