4. One ends: 0.375 The other can go on forever: 0.666666666 When a decimal comes to an end, it is called a TERMINATING DECIMAL When a decimal repeats and does not end it is called a REPEATING DECIMAL

5. REPEATING DECIMALS: We can rewrite repeating decimals using the bar notation. Place a bar over the repeating numbers to indicate that they repeat forever. 0.66666 = 0.6

6. Change each fraction to a decimal. If the decimal is repeating use the bar notation. State whether the decimal is terminating or repeating. -6/11 -0.545454 = -0.54

7. 2/15 0.1333333 = 0.13

8. 7/8 0.875

9. -5/9 -0.555555 = -0.5

10. What if we have a mixed number? How do we change it to a decimal? There are two ways you can solve this. 1. Keep the whole number and change the fraction part to a decimal: 3 ½ = (keep the 3) 1 ÷ 2= 0.5 (change the ½ to a decimal) 3.5

11. OR 2. Change the fraction to an improper fraction and then divide: 3 ½ = 7/2 = 7÷ 2 = 3.5
