Fractions and Decimals Lesson 3-8

Writing Decimals as Fractions Use the decimal as the numerator. Use the place value as the denominator (for example, if the decimal goes to the hundredths place, then the denominator is 100). Simplify the fraction.

Example: 0.35 35 100 The GCF of 35 and 100 is 5. ÷ ÷ 5 5 7 20

Mixed Numbers If you have a mixed number, the whole number comes before the decimal point. 2.5= 2 5 10 = 2 1 2

Writing a Fraction as a Decimal Divide the numerator by the denominator. 5 8 5.000 8. 6 4 8 2 0 2 16 40 5 40 0
