25 WINNET8 final conference, Kastoria - 13/14 September 2011 4. Winnet8 Four strong points of

26 WINNET8 final conference, Kastoria - 13/14 September 2011 4. Winnet8 1. Capitalisation project The most challenging type of projects in INTERREG IVC, aiming at the mainstreaming of the good practices into the ROPs 2. Bringing gender equality to INTERREG IVC Only 2 projects tackle gender equality in IVC, so the presence of Winnet8 is crucial for the programme 3. The largest INTERREG IVC partnership With 18 partners, cooperation is a challenge but also an invaluable source of knowledge and exchange 4. High quality dissemination at EU level Winnet8 is promoted at the highest EU political levels

27 WINNET8 final conference, Kastoria - 13/14 September 2011 5- Programme recent developments

28 WINNET8 final conference, Kastoria - 13/14 September 2011 Programme recent developments  Programme mid-term evaluation Delivered in November 2010 (total of 18 recommendations related to programme implementation and future of interregional cooperation)  ‘Capitalisation at programme level’ - Experimentation focus on 21 projects dealing with innovation policies (finding presented to the MC in June 2011) - Proposal for the ‘generalisation’ approved 5. Programme recent developments

29 WINNET8 final conference, Kastoria - 13/14 September 2011 Programme new development ‘Capitalisation at programme level’ Approved in June 2011 by the Monitoring Committee with a start planned in 2012 Core objective: to better exploit the knowledge resulting from projects working on a similar topic Up to 12 topics covered (e.g. cultural industries, entrepreneurship, ageing population, climate change, sustainable transport, renewable energy...) 2. Programme state of play

30 WINNET8 final conference, Kastoria - 13/14 September 2011 Why ‘capitalise’ at programme level? Individual project monitoring necessary but not sufficient to fully exploit results for the programme High number of projects approved in the same sub-theme o « Innovation & RTD »: 22 projects o « Energy & Sustainable Transport »: 19 projects Critical mass: capitalisation potential is high when enough projects are covering the same theme o around 200 regions involved in exchanging on regional innovation systems o no mechanism planned in the Operattional Programme to exploit this 5. Programme recent developments

WINNET8 final conference – 13-14 September 2011 Capitalisation potential within project groupings What are the common characteristics shared by these projects in terms of region involved, difficulties faced, results achieved? Do they have similar good practices in common? Can they be transferred to other regions? Did they respond differently to the same problem? Did one region develop a particularly innovative and interesting approach? What public policy recommendations can we draw from these projects? 5. Programme recent developments

WINNET8 final conference – 13-14 September 2011 Topics identified for programme capitalisation in 2011 (min. 5 projects per topic) Priority 1: 1. Innovation capacity of SMEs 2. Creative and cultural industries 3. Entrepreneurship 4.e-government 5. Support to SMEs Priority 2: 1.Climate change 2.Energy efficiency 3.Renewable energy 4.Sustainable public transport 5. Programme recent developments

WINNET8 final conference – 13-14 September 2011 Expected results Increased visibility and understanding of programme results Influence of INTERREG IVC on policy-making at regional, national and european level e. g. as source of inspiration for future Regional Operational Programmes Strenghten links between INTERREG IVC and thematic DGs 5. Programme recent developments
