1 Neonatal Fundamentals of Care (FOC) All Wales User Experience Audit 2014 Wendy Davies, Lead Nurse, Wales Neonatal Network Katy Swain, Neonatal Ward Manager, Singleton Hospital

2 Background The User Experience Questionnaire is part of the Welsh Government FOC programme (2003) which aims to improve the quality of aspects of health and social care for adults The Wales Neonatal Network were asked to adapt the FOC adult tool & Questionnaire for neonates & their families Set up a small task & finish group (2014) with nurses North and South Wales units The Neonatal FOC Audit Results 2014 are in a poster display

3 Aim To enable neonatal units to obtain service user feedback on the care we provide to their babies and families To help identity what we do well and where we need to improve 1 st All Wales Neonatal User Experience Questionnaire

4 Method 11 neonatal units asked users of the service i.e. family, friends & carers to complete the User Experience Questionnaire Target compliance was 20 questionnaires per unit Comprised of 13 questions and 1 rating their overall experience Answers rated “never, sometimes, usually and always” Audit period between 1 st Oct – 30th Nov 2014 Results were uploaded on the HOWIS (Health of Wales Information Services) website

5 All Wales Results Target compliance 20 questionnaires per unit 9/11 units uploaded results on to HOWIS website  90 responders out of as possible 220 (41%)  66 service users / 24 family, friends, carers  74 Female / 15 Male / 1 NA

6 USER EXPERIENCE Using a scale of 1 – 10, where 1 is very bad and 10 is excellent, how would you rate you overall experience? All Wales overall experience 92.13% (Health Board range 87.50% -93.33%)

20 Conclusions  Only a 41% response rate (90 service users)  This is the first time an All Wales audit on User Experience has been undertaken  Not all nurses had IT training to upload the audit data on to the HOWIS website

21 It is important that parents & families have a voice about the quality of care their baby and family receives The questionnaire provides them with an opportunity to share their views and experiences The results should empower staff to develop FOC action plans to make a difference and improve the user and family experience on the unit Welsh Government Re audit 6 th Oct 2015 Conclusions
