3 Fall 2015 Extended Pilot: 50 Sections of College of IST Courses Including: 26 World Campus sections (in 15 World Campus (WC) courses) 8 Resident (RI) UP sections 16 Resident (RI) non-UP sections

4 Differences between World Campus (WC) and Resident Instruction(RI) sections For WC: Master courses (MC) -- created and maintained “course-in-a-box” Faculty and course committee -- approve changes/updates Learning Design unit implements updates in MC then copies out to each section, each semester. Efforts to make courses more consistent across programs (e.g. naming conventions, navigation, order of items on the syllabus, etc.) – intended to help meet accessibility needs and student-centered learning For RI: MC is optional and will be available to easily use all or any part of the “course-in- a-box” shared via Canvas Commons

23 For your World Campus sections…it will be visible to students 1 week prior to first day of class. For your Resident Instruction sections… it will be visible to students when you “publish” it. When are the students able to view the section?

30 Q: Why did we decide to put all of our content in Canvas? And copy over the html page-by-page from Drupal to Canvas? A: To avoid the frame-in-a-frame display of the content in a browser and to avoid any display issues in mobile. To avoid having: two systems and two log-ins. We saw Drupal as a “work- around” because ANGEL did not meet our needs.

33 Tip: You might want to “hide” some of the left navigation for your students. Hide by going to Settings > Navigation Assignments, Pages, Files, Quizzes can be available under Modules.

34 Tip: Conferences -- BigBlueButton (BBB) is an integrated online meeting tool like Bb Collaborate or Adobe Connect. You can easily meet with your students synchronously with audio and video. Teams have their own meeting spaces – they can create, schedule, and record themselves.

40 Tip: Speedgrader It will save you time - No need to download student submissions. You can provide feedback and mark-up in-line like Google Docs. For Team Assignments, all team members can see what was uploaded by their teammates. You can grade Team Assignments once – all the team members can see the grade and feedback. You can Mute assignments until you are finished grading them. Students can not see the grades and feedback until you Un-mute them.

60 Top Ten Things You May Like About Canvas 1.Canvas is intuitive. Items are located where you think they should be. 2.Save time and clicks -- in ANGEL it took 4 clicks and in Canvas it takes 1 (to do multiples). 3.Speedgrader will save you time. No need to download student submissions. You can provide feedback and mark-up in-line like Google Docs. 4.In the Speedgrader, you can Mute assignments until you are finished grading them. Students can’t see the grades and feedback you entered until you Unmute. 5.Mobile App will be convenient. If you want, you can respond to students anytime/anywhere. Your students will like using the App. 6.Notifications - you and your students can decide how and when you are notified, including text messages. 7.Team Space (called Groups in Canvas) -- teams can coordinate and work together with file space, online meeting and collaboration tools, messages, and forums. 8.Online Meeting space (called Conferences)-- you can easily meet with your students synchronously where they can see and hear. 9.You can put in Announcements and decided when you want them to be displayed later for the students to see using Delayed Posting. 10.You can see what the students see with Student View
