2 In Trade Developed trade routes linking Arabia, India, North Africa and the Byzantine Empire. The Bazaar – large open-air markets found in every large city where goods from all around the world were exchanged by people from all around the world. The Arabic language became the comnon language of trade.

4 In Scholarship The House of Wisdom – A school created in Baghad where Muslims, Jews and Christians studied and exchanged ideas. Jews and Christians were called “people of the book.” Scholars there saved much of the learning of the ancient world by copying ancient manuscripts.

6 In Mathematics Algebra – means “the addition of one thing to another”; Created by Muslim mathematician al Khwarizmi. Borrowed the zero from India and created the Arabic numerals we use today.

8 In Science Perfected a Greek navigational instrument called the astrolabe later used by sailors to find their way at sea. Chemistry – Muslim scholars founded this science. Al-Razi was the first to categorize substances as animal, vegetable, or mineral.

10 In Medicine Arab doctors were the first to discover that circulates through the heart to the rest of the body. Muslim doctors were the first to show how diseases spread from person to person.

11 In Literature In Addition to the Quran… The Thousand and One Arabian Nights is a collection of stories for around the Islamic Empire. Famous characters include Sinbad and Aladdin. Omar Khayyam wrote the Rubaiyat, considered by many to be one of the finest poems ever written.

13 In Art and Architecture Mosques were adorned with abstract and geometric designs of flowers, leaves, and stars. The Taj Mahal – Built by Shah Jahan, an Islamic leader in India. It is a tomb for his wife. Made of marble and precious stones, it is considered one of the worlds’s most beautiful buildings.
