1 F ACIALS LO: To be able to carry out a facial and the main steps of carrying out the practical.

2 S TEP 1: R EMOVAL OF MAKEUP If your client is wearing any eye makeup, foundation or lipstick remove with cleanser. Also remember to ask if your client is wearing contact lens.

3 S TEP 2: C LEANSE A:- Squeeze about a half a teaspoon of cleanser in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together in a circular motion. B:- Start at the neck and with a sweeping movement, use both hands to spread the cleanser on the chin, jaw, cheeks, temples and nose. C:- Apply more cleanser to the neck with long even strokes. Cleanse the area in small circular motions from the centre of the neck towards the outside, moving upwards. Try and use both hands to make sure the cleanser is spread evenly. D:- starting at the centre of the forehead continue with the circular pattern out to the temples. Move the fingertips gently in a circular motion around the eyes. Here are some cleansing products:

4 S TEP 3:-R EMOVE THE CLEANSER. A:- using moist cotton pads or facial sponges, start at the neck and remove the cleanser using long upwards strokes. B:- Repeat the cleansing technique once again. Facial sponges:

5 S TEP 4:- E XFOLIATING A:- apply the scrub to damp skin and massage gently focusing on the forehead, chin and nose, this removes dead and dry skin cells on the surface. Avoid the skin around the eye area as this skin is very soft and sensitive. B :- remove the scrub using damp facial sponges or rinse off the face. Some exfoliate scrubs to use:

6 S EP 5: F ACIAL MASSAGE A:- Apply facial massage cream or oil to the palm of your hands and begin by massaging the lymph area in long, firm sweeping motions up to the jawline. Massage along the jaw in circular movements gently with the thumb on both sides of the face. Continue this for one minute. Use broad circular motions on both sides of the cheeks, pushing the skin upwards towards the nostrils and upward on the bridge of the nose. Oils to use:

7 S TEP 5: F ACIAL MASSAGE B:- gently pinch the brow bone and sweep along under the eyes with the index finger. Repeat this motion three times. Massage the forehead in a zig-zag motion horizontally. C:- Finish by going over each area once more.

8 S TEP 6: R EMOVAL OF MASSAGING OILS / CREAM A:- Remove the massage oil or cream with the facial toner, as this will remove any excess oil or cream. This can also minimise pores. For sensitive skin rose water is a substitute for toners. Some toners to use:-

9 S TEP 7: APPLICATION OF FACIAL MASK. A:- apply the mask with a spatula, brush or with your fingers. Start from the collateral bone with long strokes apply upwards to the jawline,continuing up the face avoiding the eye area. Leave to dry according to the packaging instructions.

10 S TEP 8:- R EMOVE THE MASK. A:- Remove the mask with warm water and pat the face dry. Make sure all traces of the mask is removed. Apply the moisturiser. Some moisturisers to use:
