Protein Protein is group of nutrients that builds, repairs, and maintains body cells; they are the building blocks of your body.

Protein Sources Animal Products Milk, eggs, seafood, beef, pork, and poultry Plant Products Legumes, nuts-seeds, vegetables, and grains

Protein Facts Proteins provide energy but not as much as fat If you consumer too much protein, the additional calories will be used to produce energy for daily activity or stored as body fat. Protein breaks down to amino acids during digestion and is absorb into the small intestines Your body manufacture 11 of the 20 known amino acids

Complete Proteins 9 Essential Amino Acids have to be consumed from food http://www.onegreenplanet.org/natural-health/need-protein-amino-acids-found- abundantly-in-plants/ Leucine-stimulates muscle strength and growth, regulates blood sugar Isoleucine-produce energy and hemoglobin Lysine-converts fatty acids into fuel, absorbs and calcium, aids in collagen production Methionine-Helps form cartilage in the body through the use of sulfur Phenylalanine-makes brain chemical and thyroid hormones Threonine-supports an immune system, heart, liver, and central nervous system Tryptophan-Relaxing amino acid (makes you feel sleepy and relaxed) Valine-muscle growth and repair Histidine-transports neurotransmitters, produces red and white blood cells

Incomplete Proteins Food that contain some, but not all, essential amino acids Plant foods are considered incomplete proteins because they are low or lacking in one or more of the amino acids we need to build cells. Incomplete proteins found in plant foods can be mixed together to make a complete protein. As a general rule, grains, cereals, nuts, or seeds can be eaten together with dried beans, dried peas, lentils, peanuts or peanut butter. soy – quinoa – chia – hemp – amaranth
