T HE C OMMON G OOD The goal or course of our nation Working together for the same goal What are goals that make up “the common good” for our country today?

W HY DO WE NEED G OVERNMENT ? 1. Make Laws 2. Keep Order 3. Provide Services 4. Prevent Anarchy For each of the 4 answers above, describe one way our government fulfills (or does not fulfill) those needs

K INDS OF G OVERNMENT /E CONOMIC S YSTEMS Socialist : Government and people control resources Communist : Government controls all resources and makes all decisions Dictatorship : Rule by power and force; usually die by force Theocracy : Religious leaders also control the government Monarchy : Power to rule is handed down by birth

A CTIVITY Get a “ We the People ” textbook from the front and go to PAGE 2 Read all of Lesson 1 As you read, define the 10 vocabulary words under “terms to know” After reading, answer 1-4 under “What do you thing?” section on page 6. Honors students must complete section before leaving class. Define vocabulary and answer questions on R2 in your notebooks!!!
