1 Writing a Paragraph about Your Independent Reading You can do this!

2  You will be writing a paragraph about your choice of book. You won’t know the question before class that day  Questions will be kind of “generic” – the kind of question anyone should be able to answer about a book she just read.  You will only have 10 minutes to write your paragraph. In Addition to Your PowerPoint….

3 Let’s think about how a good paragraph is set up ….  It starts with a general sentence that introduces the topic. This first sentence is called a Topic Sentence.  It then offers lots of good support in complete sentences. The sentences should come in an order that makes sense.  It wraps up with a final sentence that basically reviews the main idea of the paragraph. This last sentence is a Concluding Sentence. What are the parts of a paragraph?

4  Usually 8 – 10 sentences will do nicely.  Be sure you give SPECIFIC, DETAILED, and ACCURATE info about the book.  You are trying to prove to me that you read the book carefully and remember it well. So how long will my paragraph need to be?

5  Tell who your favorite character is and why  Tell who your least favorite character is and why  Tell if this book would make a good class novel and why or why not  Tell a theme from this novel and how it is shown in the story  Tell the main conflict of the novel and how it is resolved in the book  Tell which character from the book you are most alike.  Tell the setting of the book and how it affects the plot. Possible questions ….
