3 Proclamation Act of 1763 When the king made a law banning westward expansion across the Appalachian Mountains The colonists felt betrayed by the king; made colonists suspicious of their king

5 Quartering Act When the king quartered soldiers in colonists homes at colonists expense Colonists felt controlled by the king and feared that they were being watched

7 Stamp Act Because the French & Indian War cost so much money, the king taxed the colonists’ paper products to make money for the country The colonists complain about ‘taxation without representation’ – no voice in Parliament

9 Townshend Acts Act = Law A tax on lead, tea, paper, and glass that was “indirect” (tax was hidden in the price of the product Colonists saw the hidden tax and boycotted the taxed goods (refusal to buy)

11 Boston Massacre Colonists were throwing loaded snowballs at soldiers, who fired back killing five colonists The colonists called the event a “massacre” to get the colonists to hate the English The colonists demanded soldiers to be tried for murder

13 The Tea Act (in Boston) When the king creates a tea ‘monopoly’, colonists protest Colonists dress up like Indians and dump all the tea in the Boston harbor

15 Intolerable Acts Punishment on the colonists by the king because of the Boston Tea Party…the acts closed the harbor, created military law, and outlawed town meetings The colonists called the First Continental Congress

17 First Continental Congress When the colonists get together for the first time to discuss what to do about the king and the Intolerable Acts

19 Lexington and Concord The British redcoats attempted to capture colonial army supplies and leaders at Lexington and then moved onto Concord and engaged in another battle with the colonists The colonies formed an army that was commanded by George Washington…the Revolutionary War had begun
