2 your home institution will provide... basic course texts and journals essential background reading reference material, including appropriate databases range of advanced materials to meet immediate project and assignment needs induction and information skills training study space

4 4 this presentation will show you how to... log onto the university’s network access your university email account find your university student record find and use the library catalogue (OPAC) use eJournals, eBooks and databases off-campus find subject - specific web pages find and use the Information Skills Tutorial find information on referencing systems

5 5 accessing the University’s website most pages on the university’s website are open access however, you have to log in to web based resources bought by the university. This is due to Data Protection legislation and access restrictions placed by the university or database suppliers, which protect their commercial interests

6 6 logging in... a single username and password allows you to use all of the university’s password protected resources your username is a lower case ‘s’ followed by your student number the default password for the first time you log in is your date of birth in 8 digits e.g. 3 rd Jan 1985 is entered as 03011985 when you log in for the first time you will be prompted to change your password

7 when do I need to log in? when using: email moodle your student record e-journals, e-books and databases off-campus Interactive functions of the library catalogue

8 click on the Infonet link to log in

9 the Log In screen... Enter your username and password in the format shown. The password is concealed for security reasons. Academic staff will use their staff number preceded by a lower case ‘s’

10 common problems when logging in... 1.the ‘s’ in your username is case sensitive 2.password is case sensitive 3.forgotten password 4.password has expired after 90 days 5.after 3 unsuccessful attempts, your account locks you out for points 1 – 2 ensure Caps Lock is off for points 3 – 5 contact icthelpdesk@glos.ac.ukicthelpdesk@glos.ac.uk

11 11 troubleshooting The following messages may appear if there is a problem with your network account: ‘account disabled’ ‘username or password has not been recognised, please contact your system administrator’ if you see either of these messages report the problem to the ICT helpdesk by email icthelpdesk@glos.ac.ukicthelpdesk@glos.ac.uk

A.no, the educational institution where you are taught is responsible for providing your book stock Q.can Collaborative Partner students use other university libraries through the SCONUL Access collaborative scheme? A.only if your home institution is publicly funded, ask your librarian at the local educational institution where you are taught if it is a SCONUL Access member
