2  An academic course focused on experiential learning  An opportunity to gain valuable experience in a “real world” work environment  Students can choose to complete either a 12 credit (480 work hours) or 6 credit (240 work hours) internship

3  To gain work experience in the field of criminology and criminal justice  To improve your resume and attain a favorable job reference  To enhance your job opportunities, career options, and personal job satisfaction  To transition more easily from school to work and experience less reality shock when starting a permanent job  To network and gain valuable contacts for the future  To set yourself off from the thousands of students graduating with degrees in criminology and criminal justice

4 ◦ By Summer of Internship  60 earned credit hours (Junior status)  12 credit hours of CRIM  2.5 GPA (minimum) ◦ Process:  Complete Departmental Internship Application  Search for Internship Agency  Apply and Interview with Internship Agency  Letter of Acceptance and Job Description  Liability Insurance, Affiliation Agreement, and Approval from Dean’s Office  Register For Internship  Meet with Faculty Supervisor  Begin Summer Internship

5  12 credits: 480 work hours required  6 credits: 240 work hours required  Academic Assignments ◦ Journals  Daily Entries  Weekly Summaries ◦ Writing Assignments (Professional Development)  Supervisors ◦ Site Supervisor ◦ Faculty Supervisor

6  Site supervisor’s evaluation and recommendation  Quality of journal entries  Quality of written assignments  Timely submission of work products

7  County, State, & Federal CJ Agencies  County, State, & Federal Prisons  Private Juvenile Facilities  Private Drug & Alcohol and Mental Health Facilities  Private Security Sites and Firms  Individual Examples: ◦ US Marshals Service (USMS) ◦ PA Office of Attorney General ◦ Ocean City Police Department ◦ Adelphoi Village ◦ Cambria Co.
