Agenda  Introduction  Application Design  User Interface  Live Demo  Q&A

Introduction  Today’s challenges  Growing demand for mobility  Increase in the number of mobile corporate users  Extensive adoption of mobile devices with touch-screen features and ease of operation  No device dependencies  Mobile BI platform can integrate with your pre-existing SAS BI platform  Increasing the agility of the decision-making process by accessing SAS analytic platform while travelling  Secure access via SSL / VPN

Advantage of mobility  Reporting and dashboards  Performance monitoring and real-time BI capabilities  Alerting and messaging  Collaboration

Thin or Thick ? Thin  Delivered using the Web or other technologies  Application will reside on the server  Processing will be done on the server  Requires an active server connection Thick  Requires installation of the application on the mobile device  Enhanced communication and interaction on the mobile device  Additional infrastructure costs may be incurred

Overview  Touch-optimized mobile interface  Utilizes advanced JavaScript frameworks jQuery and jQTouch  Zero-footprint server side application  No appstore publication required  Support all popular smartphone and tablet platforms

Design Considerations  Short response time: jQTouch helps maintaining one single HTML page with a simple user interface. Additional pages are loaded via Ajax and stay cached once loaded.  Original SAS graph rendering: Organizations spent significant time in developing their SAS reports using SAS/Graph. The application should utilize the sas graph engine to provide the same look and feel.  Support for multiple devices/browsers: Applications should have consistent look-and-feel and behavior across supported devices and browsers.

SAS® Stored Processes Mobile Dashboard web application jQuery jQTouch Application Design

User interface  Mobile enabled logon screen  Browse registered reports by tapping a report folder  Typical mobile app features include: back button, animated page transitions, support for orientation change, etc.  Reports will render using the SAS® Stored Process web application.  Register the app on the home screen (iOS) and enjoy quick access and full screen view

Report Library

Report Rendering

Application Flow 1.Initial list of report folders is read from the database and rendered as list component 2.The user selected a folder and containing reports are listed 3.The user selected a report and the report content is rendered using the SAS® Stored Process web application

Live Demo

Conclusion  SAS provides a very robust platform to deliver mobile reports to smartphones today. Customers have invested heavily in building their business reports and SAS® Stored Processes are a great and simple way of pushing reports out to mobile.  Using HTML5 mobile developers can use the same set of technologies they know to build rich web applications that work across different device types. Combining both and you get your very own rich mobile application!
