2. Why use Ofsted reports? Maths is not graded separately - you need to examine reports to understand inspection themes Reports indicate that quality of maths is below the overall grades

3. In those colleges with a Good Grade:- Recognition of the challenges – good colleges have issues Teaching of various levels in the same class Need to challenge leaners with grade C or above further (progress is not good for these learners) Use of initial diagnostic assessment No outstanding grades without good maths Recognition that maths is a strategic priority Subject learning is generally planned to integrate maths and its importance Attendance issues

4. In those colleges with a Requires Improvement Grade it has been found:- Progress in maths is insufficient Low numbers achieve C grade and above Teaching of maths requires improvement Lack of confidence in management to address issues Lack of promotion across the curriculum Attendance low

5. In those colleges which are Inadequate:- No development of maths skills Low achievement of C grade and below Not linked to main programme Limited initial diagnoses Lack of targets Leaners unable to apply maths skills to other areas

6. Issues relating to maths to be addressed: Is it a strategic priority? How are staff using results of initial diagnostic assessments? How do you develop skills of leaners with grade C and above? Do you have a strategy to improve teaching, learning and assessment?
