2. Origin Judaism is a monotheistic religion. – One of the world’s 1 st religions to only worship ONE God. – Believe God is all-knowing, powerful, merciful & just. Began in 1800 B.C. in Canaan.

4. The Founder God “Yahweh” created a covenant (a promise) with Abraham & his descendants. – Abraham is the “Father of the Hebrews.”

5. Abraham was promised the land of Canaan as a sign of a relationship between Yahweh (God) and the Hebrew people. Hebrews believe they are a chosen people. – This is symbolized through the land of Israel.

6. Holy Book God’s law was revealed through Moses. Moses was the law- giver and author of the first books of the Torah. Torah – sacred writings of Judaism. It contains the first 5 books of the Hebrew Bible.

8. The most well-known laws of God are the Ten Commandments. It teaches that Yahweh rewards people according to their deeds. There will be a Messiah (savior) one day who will restore Israel. They believe in an after-life but there is little emphasis on this.

12. Diffusion Mainly practiced by Hebrew people. Due to conquests of Jewish lands there are adherents (supporters) of Judaism throughout the world. Judaism is widespread but it does NOT actively seek to convert others.
