4 WEATHER Although temperatures remain high all year round, La Palma is cooled by Atlantic breezes which ensure the heat is bearable. Two diverse climates are present, with the northern region of the island offering lush green vegetation and rainfall, and the south being hot and dry. In spring, La Palma receives an average rainfall of 34mm, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 20°C. Tourists can make the most of around 7 hours of sunshine each day. Temperatures vary between 18°C and 23°C in summer, and the average monthly rain drops to around 6mm.The hottest and driest month is August, and the peak summer months receive up to 10 hours of sunshine each day. Autumn temperatures hover at a pleasant 20°C in the coastal areas, with up to 7 hours of sunshine. Many tourists who enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking, prefer to visit during this season. Temperatures cool in winter to between 12°C and 18°C. There’s an increased chance of rainfall and although mainly warm, the weather can be unpredictable.

5 CLOTHING Casual and loose clothing will keep you cool if you decide to visit during the hotter months. Protection from the sun is recommended, so don’t forget to pack your sunglasses, sun cream and hat. Visitors are also advised to have personal protection against mosquitoes. Comfortable sandals will be suitable throughout the year, though hiking boots will be required for a number of activities.
