5 African Burial Ground Over 400 Africans were buried here in the 17 th and 18 th centuries. Archeologists discovered remains of African culture stretching back to over 350 years.

6 The African American Civil War Memorial honors the service of 209,145 African American soldiers and sailors who fought for the Union in the United States Civil War.

7 Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial A grateful nation honors its fallen fire service heroes at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

8 On Sunday, September 11, 2011, the National Police Defense Foundation unveiled the NPDF Police Memorial that honors the many heroes lost ten years ago.

9 Martin Luther King Memorial We remember the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and honor contributions to world peace through non- violent social change.
