4 Veterans Day honors people who were in the armed forces. Soldiers, sailors, and pilots who served the United States are all veterans.

5 On Thanksgiving Day people give thanks for what they have. This tradition was started by the Pilgrims many years ago.

6 Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King worked to make laws that would be fair to all people. Each year, Americans honor his work.

7 On President’s Day people honor two important Presidents of the United States: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

8 On Memorial Day, citizens of the United States remember the people who fought and died in wars.

9 The United States flag stands for our country. Towns have parades and sing our national anthem on Flag Day.

10 Our Flag 1. Our flag has 13 stripes of red and white. 2. It has 50 white stars on a blue field. 3. Put your right hand over your heart when you salute. 4. Say the pledge while you salute. 5. Never let the flag touch the ground. 6. Fly the United States flag above all others. 7. Take the flag down or illuminate it at night.

12 On the Fourth of July, we celebrate our country’s birthday. The United States was born on July 4, 1776.

18 Courage means acting bravely. It takes courage to be honest and tell the truth. Rosa Parks was a very brave woman.

19 Responsibility means doing all your work when you are asked to do it.

20 Fairness means acting to make things fair for everyone.

21 Caring is helping others. Listening helps us know how others feel. These kids care about the environment.

22 Patriotism is being proud of your country and working to help your country.

23 Respect means paying attention to what other people want and believe. Treating others with respect helps everyone get along.

24 Civic Duty is good citizenship. It means helping your town live and work together.

25 Be a good citizen. Help your school and your community.
