3 ● Usually: Americans usually prefer coffee to tea ● Often: Americans often prefer coffee to tea. ● Tend to: Americans tend to prefer coffee to tea. ● In general: In general, Americans prefer coffee to tea. ● Most/Many: Most American prefer coffee to tea ● On the whole: On the whole, Americans prefer coffee to tea ● The majority of: The majority of Americans prefer coffee to tea. ● Rarely: Americans rarely prefer tea to coffee ● Few: Few Americans prefer tea to coffee.

4 Qualifying Generalizations ● What does qualifying a generalization mean? – To point out the limits of a generalization ● When should we qualify generalizations? – Maybe when our generalizations could make us seem rude or ignorant or when there are notable exceptions
