3 Background The FETRIC project is a 3 years bi-lateral cooperation Tunisia - UE financed by the European Commission (DG Research and Innovation) under the 7 th Framework Program. The project aims at reinforcing the Tunisian participation in EU Research and Innovation programs particularly H2020 in relation to three relevant societal challenges: Resource efficiency (particularly Water), High Quality Affordable Food and Energy (particularly renewable energies).

4 WEG objectives One of the most important tasks of the FETRIC project is WEG (Working Expert Group), which acts as a project “think tank” on the three challenges: the Aim of providing recommendations and inputs for actions based on national priorities in relation to the European Research and Innovation Program “Horizon 2020” Food Energy Water

5 WEG structure WEG is based on more than 60 experts, divided in three sub- thematic groups : WG “Water” WG “Food” WG “Energy” Each sub-group has to ensure a comprehensive, multidiscipline approach to the thematic challenge under its responsibility. Each sub-group is composed by experts of different background, to ensure comprehensive and Global analysis of societal challenges.

6 For each major theme, emphasis will be given to: Food food security and safety, biodiversities, health, fisheries and aquaculture, food-chain in pre to post-harvesting.... Energy energy efficiency, solar energy, photovoltaic, wind, bio-energy, … Water Managing water scarcity, Water use efficiency, Water saving, Use of non- conventional water, water quality, water management, water governance....

10 Mandate of WEG Each WEG will deal the following three main tasks: Task 1: Task 1: Stocktaking of research results (from existing / ongoing national research projects, programs or relevant actions) and preparing recommendation to research organisations, with the aim of facilitating uptake of research results in new research actions and programs and enhancing a real impact to the main thematic challenges. Task 2: Task 2: Stocktaking of research policies, policy needs and preparing recommendation for policy development and his uptake. Task 3: Task 3: Developing a global view of societal challenges to enhance a logical and feasible integrated approach

11 Mandate of Expert to accomplish tasks his dependents, the following activities are carried out by the experts: Stocktaking and analysis of survey data. Participation to technical meetings (2 day meeting), for a maximum number of 3 meetings (one meeting per task). Contributing to the delivery of task report. Each expert will share the preparation of the report by contributing to one or more paragraphs. Distribution of paragraphs among experts will be discussed and agreed with the chair.

13 Phase 1 Edition and dissemination a survey (leader MHESR) Establish survey template for each thematic. Selected national and partner chair will contribute in the development of this survey. Dissemination of survey for the Tunisian scientific community ( the survey it will be brought online on the FETRIC website; a period of 30 working days is given to answer the questionnaire)

14 Phase 2 Working group meeting and scientific coffee Working group meeting (leader: Working group meeting (leader: MHESR) launching a call for proposal for selection experts (the selection will be done by a scientific commission) Held of the three WEG in 2 days Workshop (deliverable: Final report) The report of each WG should include the following elements: An overview of existing research in Tunisia in each thematic (water, Food and Energy) A reference inventory of scientific production in each thematic. Collects a legal and regulatory texts for each societal challenge. Political approach to Tunisian and Mediterranean Research for each thematic. The match between the current situation and minimum requirements required for each societal challenge. Feasibility of the actions in the current Tunisian context (economic aspect, social,...).

15 Phase 2 Working group meeting and scientific coffee Scientific coffee (Leader: FEMIA) organization of a Scientific coffee with the participation of the civil society organization, socio economic expert, gendre expert, politicians,WEG, representative of SMEs… The output of this event is a synthesis document in which are defined in a clear way: thematic for which conditions for uptake of research results are favorable and urgently needed Stocktaking of good practices of results valorization in order to identify successfully contributing skills, variables and factors (technical, socio- cultural, economic, governance and institutional). scheme of variables and factors necessary to enhance successful results valorization (results valorization chain). guidelines and formulate clear actions.

16 Phase 3 National Stakeholders Meeting Tunisian MHESR will organize a stakeholders meeting for discuss a Working Group proposals and recommendations on national research priorities (in the thematic of water, energy and food), the most pertinent actions will be translated into measure and political decisions
