5 Why? Our target audience is 11-14 year old (S1- S3), the age range statistically most at risk on our roads Current resource needs to be updated and brought in line with a Curriculum for Excellence

6 …there is a teenager. feels invincible has ‘done’ road safety unaware of risk peer pressure too cool

7 …and a teacher needs to deliver curriculum timetable pressures lacks up to date resources little preparation time lacks own teaching space

11 What’s the ultimate aim To produce a resource that; Challenges young people’s views and ideas allowing them to reflect on life experiences. Encourages young people to take responsibility for their own learning. Encourages young people to take responsibility for the safety of themselves and others on our roads.

17 Where are we now - the Vision 1.Short DVD dramas and ‘game’ based lessons S1/S2 drama with a pedestrian theme explores risky behaviour, peer pressure, citizenship, responsibilities, distractions S2/S3 drama with a passenger theme explores pre driver attitudes, stereotypes, responsibilities, distractions aspects of being a cyclist, pedestrian and the passenger in a car/public transport are covered in each

18 Where are we now - the Vision 2.Utilise modern technology Content social networking sites, webcams, i-pods filmed using self-generated mobile phone camera images and CCTV Delivery whiteboard, DVD, PC whole class or individual

19 Where are we now - the Vision 3. Give road safety greater breadth in curriculum Covers themes of; Peer pressure, risk taking, decision making, confidence/assertiveness, citizenship, media influence, personal safety
