Periodic Table Foldable
2
Directions Draw a line across each mark so you have 8 sections Cut the first two papers along the line stop about 1-2 centimeters before the edge of the paper. Label each flap as follows: Alkali Metals – Group 1 Alkaline Earth Metals – Group 2 The Boron Group – Group 3 The Carbon Group – Group 4 The Nitrogen Group – Group 5 The oxygen group – Group 6 Halogens – Group 7 Noble Gases – Group 8
3
Alkali Metals Flap 1: Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Cesium, Francium Flap 2: 1 electron in the outer shell Soft and silvery metals Very reactive, esp. with water Conduct electricity Video Video
4
Alkaline Earth Metals Flap 1: Beryllium, Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium, Radium Flap 2: 2 electrons in the outer shell White and malleable Reactive, but less than Alkali metals Conduct electricity Video Video
5
Boron Group Flap 1: Boron, Aluminum, Gallium, Indium, Thallium Flap 2: 3 electrons in the outer shell Contains four metals, one metalloid
6
Carbon Group Flap 1: Carbon, Silicon, Germanium, Tin, Lead Flap 2: 4 electrons in the outer shell Contains metals, metalloids, and a non-metal Carbon (C)
7
Nitrogen Group Flap 1: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Arsenic, Antimony, Bismuth Flap 2: 5 electrons in the outer shell Can share electrons to form compounds Contains metals, metalloids, and non-metals
8
Oxygen Group Flap 1: Oxygen, Sulfur, Selenium, Tellurium, Polonium Flap 2: 6 electrons in the outer shell Contains metals, metalloids, and non-metals Reactive
9
Halogens Flap 1: Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, Astatine Flap 2: 7 electrons in the outer shell All are non-metals Very reactive are often bonded with elements from Group 1 Video Video
10
Noble Gases Flap 1: Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, Radon Flap 2: Exist as gases Non-metals 8 electrons in the outer shell = Full Helium (He) has only 2 electrons in the outer shell = Full Not reactive with other elements
