5. 2016 CSO System Training & Networking Conference / Copyright © 2016 #csoconf A cademic Advisors Tips ● Students can look into jobs to help narrow down their major. o Have them think about… does the major matter for the field they are interested in? o Recommend students look at jobs by industry…  What do jobs in that industry require?  Conduct an industry search for those interested in a particular field  Key search by job title NOT major… In the working world employers post positions based on job titles, not a person’s major.

6. 2016 CSO System Training & Networking Conference / Copyright © 2016 #csoconf Career Counselors Tips ● When discussing GoldPASS with student login through their account. o This is the best way to assist them with navigating the system through their account. o Recommend that students read all memos at the top of each page. This tells them exactly how to navigate that specific page. o Remind students to be mindful of which cover letter and resume they have set to default. This is the resume employers will see when conducting a student search.  Students can upload additional documents such as transcripts.  Encourage students to search for jobs based on job title instead of major. Once students graduate they will never search on major again.
