3. R2 User Training (Beta) - Session I April 24, 2013 Roles & Policies A Policy is a set of rules defining what actions someone is allowed to perform on a particular Resource. A Role is a name for a set of Policies. For convenience and taking advantage of common patterns of use for ease of Policy assignments and management. Guest Can browse and view various ION resources Registered User Can subscribe to events related to ION resources Facility Operator Can request permission to operate any instrument within a Facility. Can post events related to individual Instruments and Platforms Facility Data Operator Can operate (manipulate) all Data Products in the Facility Can post events related to individual Data Products 3

R2 User Training (Beta) - Session I April 24, 2013 Roles & Policies, continued Facility Manager Can make changes to the Facility configuration, including creating and modifying Sites and change lifecycle states of Facility resources Can post events related to individual Sites Facility Administrator Can make changes to the Facility information (e.g., name) Has authority to confer Roles to users which includes granting "command and control" permission to a particular user for an instrument or platform. Can post events related to the Facility as a whole Roles are Inclusive A manager has the authority of an operator and an administrator has the authority allowed a manager and operator. 4

Or email helpdesk@oceanobservatories.org directlyhelpdesk@oceanobservatories.org Either way a Jira ticket is created, note that o Subject line is Title of ticket o Body of email is Description of ticket o Attachments are associated with ticket o Should receive a confirmation of ticket and that they can then "reply" to that email thread to further communicate about issue.
