2. Arrival Our school day begins at 7:45 a.m. When you arrive….  Make your lunch count.  Sharpen your pencils.  Use the restroom.  Start morning work or read. **You may be given PAT time for completing these tasks.

4. 1. Follow directions quickly and quietly. 2. Raise your hand for permission to speak. 3. Work hard the whole time in your spot. 4. Make smart choices. 5. Keep your dear teacher happy! We will not have a color system for behavior in second grade, however if you are not able to follow the expectations above you will be given a “Think Sheet” to complete during study hall. Your think sheet will be stapled in to your planner to be signed by your parent and returned the next day.

6. S.T.A.R. Binder Students Taking Academic Responsibility Our three ring binder will be our S.T.A.R. binder. This binder is designed to help you stay organized. YOU are expected to have their binder at school daily! The binder will consist of several parts: Daily Planner: Students will fill in a planner with the day’s objectives. Students will also record their daily reading minutes in their planner. Folder: There are two sections of the folder:  Take Home: For: flyers, notices, important documents and graded work. Please take these out of the pocket and keep them at home for your records  Sign and Return: For: “sign and return” documents, permission slips, homework, unfinished work or graded work to be corrected and returned. If you are sending a note to school, please notify your child to check his/her folder upon arrival.

7. Our Grading Scale 90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C Below 70% = F E = Excellent S = Satisfactory N = Needs Improvement U = Unsatisfactory Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible. Grading Procedures A numerical grade is given in LA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. An E, S, N, or U is given in PE, Music, and Art. An E, S, N, or U is given for Conduct and Study Habits both in the room and in Specials.

8. Conduct Grades  Citizenship grades will be determined by your daily behavior. I will keep track of behavioral concerns as well as work study habits, which will be used to determine your conduct grade on your Report Card.  Please note: MUSIC, ART and PE six-week citizenship grades are determined by those respective teachers and will be reported and calculated in an alternative form. 9. Absent Work  If a child is going to be missing class for a planned absence, please contact the teacher in advance to let them know. Please understand that many assignments cannot be given in advance or made up because the assignment may be hands-on, cooperative, based on a class discussion or activity, or an in- class project. Students shall have a time equal to the number of days absent from class plus one day to complete all missed assignments, unless the assignments were given before the student was absent. In this situation, assignments are due upon the student’s return.  Make-up tests or quizzes will be administered during tutorial time or study hall time to prevent the student from missing additional class time.

10. Homework Homework may come home in different formats, including unfinished work, extra skill practice, and reading log. Unfinished Work: Class time will be given for independent daily practice; however, if you do not complete your class work, it may be sent home to be completed. This unfinished daily work will be due the next school day. Extra Skill Practice: Extra practice may come if the teacher sees a concern, or a child struggling with a certain concept. Reading Log: Each week you will be expected to read 100 minutes. This can be spread out over the week and weekend to fit your needs. Each month begins with a full calendar page (see page 5 for August’s monthly calendar). This is where you will record daily reading minutes. For each day, record total minutes read with a parent initials. This calendar will be checked each Friday for completion. The first weekly check will be on September 11 th..

11. Water Bottles & Snacks To prevent dehydration and headaches, water bottles will be permitted in class. Water bottles should not be larger than 8-10 ounces and it must have a lid. Your name should be on the water bottle in permanent marker. You are responsible for filling the water bottle in the morning and after recess. Only water will be permitted in the bottles. Water bottles should be taken home on Friday washed and sent back on Monday. Snacks : You may bring a snack to school. We ask that snacks are: - in individual portions - healthy - easy to open - easy to eat - easy to clean up Please keep in mind the children will be eating their snack during instruction. Snacks that contain juice (fruit cups), that are hard to peel (oranges) and sticky can interfere with your child’s learning. In addition, due to allergies, some snacks may not be allowed in the classroom (i.e. peanut products are only allowed in the cafeteria). If this is the case, a letter will be sent home to notify you..

12. Birthday Celebrations You are welcome to bring a treat to pass out during the last ten minutes of the school day OR your parents may purchase ice cream for the class from the cafeteria to eat during lunch. Please let me know at least ONE DAY in advance, so I can schedule time at the end of the day for the celebration!

13. For a class incentive, each class will start with 5 minutes of PAT time in both Mrs. Snell’s class and my class, for a total of 10 minutes. How to Gain PAT Time… You can gain more PAT time by being responsible and ready to learn by having all your supplies, and by completing procedures and instructions correctly the first time. How to Lose PAT Time… You can also lose PAT time for not being prepared or following procedures/instructions. Every Friday you will be reward the PAT time you have earned for the week. 14. As an individual incentive, you will receive money for displaying excellent character. On the last Friday of each month, you will be able to cash your money in for different incentives. You will also be asked to pay money anytime you break one of our five classroom rules. $ Financial Friday $
