3 Graduation Requirements 1. Earn 22.5 credits ( various subject areas ) 2. Pass Reading and Writing State Exams 3. Pass End of Course Exams (EOC)(Pass Alg or Geo, and Biology) 4. Complete Culminating Portfolio

4 Graduation Credit Requirements 4 credits Language Arts (English) 3 credits Social Studies ( US Hist, World Studies, Glob Iss, Civics; +.5 elective ) 3 credits Mathematics ( College: Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra min.) 2 credits PE/Health 2 credits Science ( 1 Lab Science, 1 Non Lab Science; College 2 lab sciences ) 1 credit Occupational (CTE courses) 1 credit Fine Arts 6.5 credits Electives 22.5 creditsTotal ________________________________________________________ 2 CreditsWorld Language ( Colleges require this in addition to above ) Remember: 1 year = 1 credit; 1 semester =.5 credit

7 Minimum “CADR”college Academic Distribution Requirements for Admission to Four Year Public Colleges Language Arts/English-4 years, including 3 years of literature and composition. Math-3 years including algebra, geometry, and advanced (second year) algebra. Social Studies-3 years Science-2 years, one year of which must be lab science (1 year algebra based Science either Chemistry or Physics) World Language-2 years (same language) includes American Sign Language. Fine, Visual or Performing Arts-(Refer to information below for specifics) Senior year Quantitative Course:1 year, may be 3rd year math, higher level math, algebra based science or math based career & technical courses. (Completion of higher level math prior to senior year exempts student from requirement.)

8 College Bound Athletes-NCAA NCAA-Clearance for college athletics is in the process of continuing change regarding its requirements. More complete details and online application are available at the NCAA website: www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. More information regarding NCAA requirements can be found on our course catalog.

9 Registration Process Presentation and distribution of transcripts Fill out 4 year plan. A copy can be found on ARHS website as well as in your course catalog on page 17 Have 11 th grade classes selected, some may require teacher permission. Look up classes you are interested in and make sure that they are open for your grade level. Look for prerequisites and cross credit options Registration will occur through Career Cruising next Tuesday, March 1 st during History classes. Please have selections ready.

13 Course Description Example LAN320 & 321: AMERICAN LITERATURE AND WRITING OPEN TO: 11, 12 Full Year Course PREREQUISITE: Teacher’s signature CONTENT: This course invites students to examine the issue of “Who am I as an American?”. Students will read and discuss a variety of themes in American literature and relate the past classics to contemporary works. This course also provides students with the opportunity to improve their writing, vocabulary, and grammar skills. LAN330 & LAN331: ENGLISH LANGUAGE & COMPOSITION-AP OPEN TO: 11, 12 Full Year Course (must take full year) PREREQUISITE: Grade A or B grade in previous English class Teacher/Counselor signature This course will provide students, especially those who are university bound or interested in AP English, with an intensive study of both fiction and nonfiction, including contemporary works and training in documented research writing. Students will examine how authors used style, such as word choice and sentence structure, to create arguments. The course will prepare interested students to take the AP English Language/Composition Test Vocabulary building will be emphasized. SUMMER READING AND/OR WRITING IS REQUIRED. LAN514 & LAN515: NEWSPAPER STAFF OPEN TO: 9, 10, 11, 12 One Semester or Full Year Course.* May fulfill one semester only of 11, 12 grade high school English requirement except for staff photographers and graphic artists who will receive elective credit. Course does not satisfy four year college or NCAA entrance requirement. PREREQUISITE: A or B grade in journalistic writing (exception: photographers) and application. Instructor’s signature.
