15 * V IEWING YOUR S CHEDULE Enter your SJSU ID number and your PIN number (the number you received from our Admission Tracking Site when you first applied) If you do not know your PIN number, please go to this link: http://saldata5.sjs u.edu/getpin/ http://saldata5.sjs u.edu/getpin/ and enter your SJSU ID number. Your PIN will then be emailed to you.

19 * C LASS I NFORMATION You may have classes in the morning, in the afternoon, or both. International Gateways classes will be held in various locations across the SJSU Campus. Please look at the map on the next slide for the classroom locations. You also received a paper map when you checked in to our office.

22 22 If you get lost trying to find your classroom, come to the IG Office (Industrial Studies 227) on the first day of your class and someone will help you find your classroom. Important Class Information

23 * G RADES AND A TTENDANCE Grades and attendance are very important in our academic programs. F-1 Student Visa status – Mandatory attendance to all classes. That means you must attend all your classes, both your core classes and elective classes!

24 * G RADES AND A TTENDANCE What happens if I miss too many classes? You will FAIL the class! You cannot receive a certificate. You will be on probation Your visa can be canceled after too many absences

25 * Electives Electives are the classes you choose in addition to your core classes. You will choose one elective class Each elective class meets two times per week.

27 * C HOOSING E LECTIVES Follow the same steps as you did to get your schedule In the IG Online Student Center, Click “Choose your elective” Follow the instructions.

28 * E LECTIVES I NFORMATION Monday 8/18 at 8am to Tuesday 8/19 at 1pm. If you do not choose, we will choose for you You may not be able to change your elective after the deadline, so choose carefully

29 * Elective Class Schedule You will receive an email with information about your elective schedule at the end of next week. On this schedule you will see your elective classes with the room number and required text information. Electives begin the week of August 25, 2014

41 * How do I get one? Instructions for activating your account will be given out during the orientation today. You can also pick one up any time at the Gateways Office.

42 * C OMMON Q UESTIONS “When will my classes begin?” All Core classes will begin on Monday, August 18 th. When you view your schedule online, check the times your classes will be meeting. Elective classes will begin the week of August 25 th. Check your schedule carefully for your class room numbers. Some classes will be on different sides of the campus.

43 * C OMMON Q UESTIONS “Can I change my level?” The teachers and coordinators work very hard to make sure you are placed in the correct level and classes so that you are able to learn and grow as an English learner. After a few class sessions, if you have questions about your class level, ask your teachers what they recommend.

44 * C OMMON Q UESTIONS “Where can I buy my textbooks?” Spartan Bookstore (in the new Student Union building) You will find out where the bookstore is during the Campus Tour. You should be able to purchase your books next week.
