2 Soft Tissue Sarcoma 65% Arm or Leg 25% Torso 10% Head & Neck >50 Types Usually Named from the part of the body that they originated from

3 Bone Sarcomas Osteosarcoma and Ewing’s Sarcoma – Most common bone tumor in children & young adults Chondrosarcoma is more common in young adults

4 Sarcoma Associated with loss of p53 and RB tumor suppressor genes Associated with Familial syndrome called Li- Fraumeni syndrome (loss of p53) Associated with radiation exposure

5 Sarcomas Localized pain & swelling is the hallmark of bone sarcomas Work-up includes bone biopsy, bone scans, CT scans Treatment – Resection +/- radiation…+/---chemo pending mets Preoperative chemotherapy for osteosarcomas is standard GI stromal tumors treated with c-kit inhibitors
