7 R OUTES OF ENTRY TO YOUR AREA OF INTEREST What have you looked at so far? Where can you look next (from the previous list or other ideas you have) Do some research NOW keeping in mind part of the assignment brief Investigate ALL routes you could take. Investigate the actual jobs available in the current market place. Pick out the skills needed for the role(s) you are looking at by looking at some adverts and person specifications/job descriptions

8 C HOSEN AREA – MARKET & SKILLS What did you research tell you about the current market for your chosen area? What sort of skills did you identify as necessary? If you don’t have the specific skills required do you have any transferable skills that are similar (eg from home life, voluntary work, other work experiences etc?)

9 G AP ANALYSIS AND ACTION PLANNING As suggested on p172/3 of Yeung’s ‘The ultimate career success workbook’ (2003) having looked at what your current knowledge, skills etc are and what is necessary for your chosen role you can perform gap analysis He suggests doing this will help ‘translate fuzzy goals into concrete actions. It will also identify possible barriers..’ (p172)

10 C ONSTRAINTS ON CAREER / JOB CHOICES What are some of the constraints you have become aware of through your research?  Lack of opportunities?  Lack of experience?  Lack of qualifications or skills?  Lack of funds if starting wanting to start your own business?  Anymore?
