2 What is an adjective? An adjective is a word that describes a noun or pronoun. The brown dog The large airplane My cool friend The annoying buzzing sound coming from the computer. I saw six books on the yellow table.

3 What do adjectives do? Adjectives answer the questions What kind? Which one? How many? How much? A sudden blizzard. (what kind of blizzard? A sudden one) The first warning. (which warning? The first one) More ice. (how much? More) Several tornadoes. (how many? Several).

4 ADVERBS ADVERBS—Modify (change/add to) or explain/describe a verb, adjective, or another adverb Adverbs tell us WHEN, WHERE, HOW, HOW MUCH, WHY EX. I got your letter yesterday. (tells WHEN I got the letter) The train headed west. (tells WHERE the train went) Sing this part loudly. (tells HOW to sing this part) The steps are dangerously icy. (tells to what DEGREE the steps are icy)

5 Find the Adverbs He smiled sadly. They went immediately. She walked here. The orange curtains were very bright. He ran quickly. Why do we need adverbs? We need to use adverbs to help explain to readers what we are thinking. Adverbs and adjectives make our sentences detailed and precise (exact).
