TLW create a video on use of Pythagorean Theorem to find distance between two points in real life story problem. The students will present findings and discuss with class. Insert the suggested technology from the “R” task card here. Students will bring in 2 clean trash items and use MapQuest to Find distance item traveled to get to their home. Then they will create triangle map and use Pythagorean Theorem. TLW Use Pythagorean Theorem to find distance between two cities. TLW use internet to share final product with class. 2 Check Pythagorean Theorem formula to find length of sides of a triangle. 1. Solve the problems on worksheet using the Pythagorean Theorem. 2. Use i-pads to log in to www.mathwarehouse.com/algebra/distance_formula/interactive-distance- formula.ppt www.mathwarehouse.com/algebra/distance_formula/interactive-distance- formula.ppt 3.Click and drag the lines of the triangle to the measurements of the two known sides of each problem on worksheet. 4.The website will calculate the measurement of the missing side. 5.Check each answer. 4 Clean Trash and Mapquest 1.Students will bring in at least 2 items from home that were to be thrown away after they were used. The items have to be clean or washed out. 2.Get assigned Ipad and log-in. 3.Find the address (city and state) where your clean trash items came from. 4.Go to www.mapquest.comwww.mapquest.com 5.Put your address in the FROM box 6.Put the address of your item in the TO box 7.Use the handouts to write notes on findings. 8.Repeat steps 5-7 for your second clean trash item. 9.Use the Mimio slate to draw a right triangle with your house and the location of the two items on point of angle. 10.Using Mimio slate click : mimio notepad, then library, mathematics, graphing, template, select large grid paper. 11.Use straight line tool to create diagram on grid with right triangle and distances of clean trash items. 12.Show math calculation on diagram using Pythagorean Theorem to show distance between the two items on your diagram. 13.Screen shot final work and upload to Blackboard class board assignment. 5 Show what you Know 1.Get assigned ipad from ipad cart. 2.Log in and open the ShowMe app. 3.Each pair will choose a story problem to model the Pythagorean Theorem. 4.Each group will discuss their thoughts from the beginning of lesson and what they have learned about strategy. Include discussion about sides a,b, and c of the right triangle. 5.Use the Promethean Board to present findings from the Show Me app. Each pair of students will use the ShowMe app on the Ipad to demonstrate Something they learned about Pythagorean Theorem.
