2 Green Energy Sector Partnership Starts in 2010 with 8 local industry leaders with Pathways Out of Poverty grant as the catalyst Green Alliance Industry Partnership formed Wind, Solar, Geothermal and Building Retrofit focused Group goals: Short term training, OJT, Screening Grant Goals: 150 hires over 2 years Grant Outcomes: 242 hires with avg wage of $16.55

3 Building the Partnership Growth of Partnership from 8 to 45 over two years Identifying needs beyond new hire training Identified individually what the original 8 company growth expectations where; developed individualized plan for growth for each company Brought State and Local Economic Development to table to add to coordination of a Partnership Growth Plan The Partnership Growth Plan includes Workforce, Economic and Product Development

4 Keys to the Partnership Identifying key active employers to drive goals; growth of group based on internal success and opportunity Support of Workforce Investment Board Economic Development Investment from local and state groups Local and state elected officials involvement Post Secondary training institutions inclusion Internal training of staff to meet needs of partnership

5 Partnership Success Maccabee Industrial- steel fabricator expanded product line to include windmill skeleton construction. - added 10 employees - secured 3 million to expand plant - upgraded skills of 25 workers - received 5 million dollar project to provide materials for lock and dam project

6 Tri-State Biofuels Small wood stove pellet manufacturer originally with six employees - expanded new product line via partnership with Marcellus Shale gas groups to increase size of pellets to use as an absorbent during drilling of gas wells. - added 25 new jobs - tripled purchasing of locally produced sawdust for operation, which resulted in the addition of 8 new hires in the sawmill industry

7 World Kitchen Formally Corning Glass, World Kitchen produces Pyrex glass products for the home - started product line for Pyrex glass used in the production of solar panels - 2 million dollar investment in new production line - 60 new jobs created - 200 incumbent workers upgraded through training

8 Therm-O-Rock East, Inc Produces vermiculite for use in steel industry for insulation of coke oven doors. - added product line for plant medium with vermiculite to be used in green roofing - 20 new hires - upgraded 80 incumbent employee skill sets - created local vendor purchase pool to fill demand for medium in roof building and insulation

9 J and J Mechanical Focused on providing HVAC ductwork and installation for residential and commercial applications. - increased 50% in residential retrofit projects - added 20 employees with avg wage of $21 p/h - trained incumbent workers to increase skill sets allowing them to bid on Federal contracts resulting in two additional projects totaling 6 million dollars.

10 Gerome Manufacturing Steel fabricator of parts used in machine production. - Added 18 new hires - Through sector partner Iberdrola Wind, procured contract to provide parts for wind project resulting in 18 windmills on Laurel Ridge. - Through sector partner Fayette Energy Consultants procured contract to produce brackets for construction of green buildings

11 Sustainability of Partnership Through success of Federal Pathways Out of Poverty grant, we were able to leverage an additional $890,000 in state funds to continue to train and place workers through November 2012 $1.3 million grant through the Dept of Energy through Fayette County through Sept 13’ - Energy Audit training for incumbent and non- incumbent workforce - $450,000 in revolving loan fund for commercial retrofits and equipment purchases. These funds managed by the Private Industry Council will allow for future matching investment to leverage future resources after the grant ends

12 Sustainability Post 2012 $70,000 in grant from Westmoreland County for training of workers in the energy industry $100,000 in grant from the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board to provide OJT and training in the energy industry $48,000 in HUD funds to train youth in energy training $25,000 in grant from West Penn Energy for construction of green building for community $20,000 in grant from Fayette Tourism to train and construct youth project of a green building along Greater Allegheny Passage trail $30,000 in Earn Funds to train low income workers in green energy classes $130,000 in partner match to provide free pipeline inspector training to meet demand of partner $20,000 in Westmoreland Foundation grant to provide training in the building retrofit industry
