 Stolons- The stem that plantlets grow on.  Plantlets- Baby plants that grow on the ends of Stolons.  Flowers- A less common way of reproducing more Spider plants. The way angiosperms reproduce Plantlets Flowers Stolon

Stolons are a stem like part of a plant that produces plantlets. They begin to grow downward until they touch the ground. Once the plantlet roots into the ground, the stolon disconnects and dries out.

 Stamen- The Stamen is the male reproductive structure of a flower that produces pollen and consists of an anther at the tip of a filament.  Pistil- The Pistil is the female reproductive structure of a flower that produces seeds and consists of an ovary, style, and stigma.  Ovary- In flowering plants, the lower part of a pistil that produces eggs in ovules.  Ovule- The part of the flower that turns into the seed.  Petals- One of the ring or rings of the usually bright colored, leaf-shaped parts of the flower.  Sepal- In a flower, one of the outermost rings of modified leaves that protect the flower bud.

On the plant, two types of flowers are produced. Some flowers have stamen which means they are male and some have a pistil which means they are female. On the male flower anthers produce pollen that spreads to the female flowers. The female flowers become fertilized. They later produce seeds that make new plants. In spider plants pollination can occur in the same plant but not in the same flower.

 The spider plants’ scientific name is Chlorophytum comosum.  Its reproductive process is very similar to the strawberries reproductive process.  It is originated from tropical and southern Africa but it has come naturalized in western Australia and San Francisco, California.  The spider plant is an asexual plant which means that it can reproduce within the same plant.
