4 Course Description  Introduction to Computers, hardware, software, Windows 7, OFFICE 2013(word processors, spreadsheets), Internet and Communication in a business oriented manner.

5 Goals and Objectives  Provide the student a introductory understanding of computer hardware and system software  Form a foundation of business oriented knowledge for Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2013

6 Upon the completion of the course, the students should be able to:  Understand the role of the computer workstation in today’s business world.  Perform the requirements gathering to implement a business application on computers.  Run various business applications in a combined Windows + Microsoft Office suite software environment.  Learn the vocabulary and describe the features of office automation systems using the proper terminology.

7 Upon the completion of the course, the students should be able to:  Create academic Word documents.  Read and create professional Excel documents.  Make professional presentations in PowerPoint.  Integrate Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in business application.  Navigate on the Web and find information on the Web.

8 Teaching methods Teaching methodology includes a combination of lecture and laboratory activities.

22 Requirements and Grading The evaluation of students will consist as below:  Practical exam (Week 7) – 25%  Practical exam (Week 14) – 45%  Written evaluation in the examining session (quiz) – 30%

23 Assignments and homework will be asked to be done during the semester Additional time may be needed outside of class to homework assignments. You may use the Open Labs for this purpose if you do not have a home computer loaded with Microsoft Office 2013.

24 Attendance and rules  Students are expected to attend every laboratory and arrive on time. Attendance will be recorded at each class meeting. You can only be absent at maximum 4 laboratory meetings then final mark is affected ( 1 up to 2 points off -after 8 abs).  Lectures attendance is at the student‘s option

25 Rules:  Turn cell phones, mp3 players and other devices off when entering the classroom.  Web surfing, email, games and other interaction on the computer are inappropriate activities during laboratories and discussions.  No use of earphones for ipods, etc. during class.  Hats, caps are for outside use. It is considered impolite to wear hats in a business environment (except for religious reasons); the same holds true for the class.  All students are expected to pay attention and participate in class.
