2 Key Concept #1  The driving force behind all crustal movement on Earth is convection currents within the mantle. The energy for this force is provided by radioactive (nuclear) decay.

3 Key Concept #2  An earthquake is a natural rapid shaking of the lithosphere (land) caused by the release of stored energy in rocks.
