4 Definitions of Apprenticeships – What’s in a name?  Qualification Framework, nationally recognised & approved by relevant SSC ( eg Cogent, SFH, Semta)  Programme that attracts national Funding via SFA  Mixture of work based training and education for any age  Different levels depending on requirements of job role

5 Apprenticeship Levels Intermediate ( L2/GCSE) Advanced (L3/ A level) Higher (L4/5 HNC/ HND/ FD) Level of apprenticeship undertaken depends on the job role

8 Who are Apprenticeships for?  Anyone any age – can offer a career progression route  Support staff in agenda for change bands 1 -4  Current and new staff – must be employed Best suited to :  People who prefer to learn ‘on the job’ and by ‘doing’ rather than by an academic route ( eg diplomas, ‘A’ levels)  People who have enthusiasm, drive and motivation NB Some eligibility criteria for LSC Funding & main target 16 -18

12 Update  Previous opportunities & learning haphazard  Initial work re development Laboratory apprenticeship opportunity L2/3 Sheffield and York  Local Providers /resources we could work with who have expertise and existing educational frameworks  Higher Apprenticeship proposal cogent /MSC development  Some initial employer interest (mainly labs & pharmacy)
