1 GRAMMAR REVIEW: Parts of Speech Using the paragraph on the following slides, identify the nouns (common, proper, collective, compound), pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and conjunctions.

2 Nouns I had a very busy summer vacation. To start, I spent a weekend at Bucknell University for Kiwanis, then I traveled to Long Beach Island, New Jersey, to spend Father’s Day with my dad. Once home, it took several days to clean out my closets, drawers, and attic. I donated a dozen bags of clothes to charity. Then I passed some time reading for pleasure, something I rarely get to do during the school year. At the end of July, I spent nine days at the Outer Banks, visiting with my mother’s family, enjoying the beach and ocean (I got stung by a jellyfish!), and eating lots of great seafood. A week after returning home, my parents and I went to Gettysburg, where we took a private tour of the battlefield and visited the Eisenhower farm. The next four days were busy with the PA Kiwanis District Convention, where I reconnected with friends from all over the state. I was also installed as a trustee, for which my parents honored me with a Walter Zeller Fellowship, a monetary contribution to the Kiwanis International Foundation that saves 690 mothers and babies from maternal and neonatal tetanus. I was shocked and so grateful! After we got home, my dad helped me complete the bathroom renovation I began mid-summer. This summer was great, but very tiring; I think I need a vacation to recover from it! How was your summer?
