4 James Madison  Delegate from Virginia  Main author of the Constitution and Bill of Rights  Kept day-to-day records of convention  Strong believer in freedom of religion and having no government interference on religion.

5 William Paterson  New Jersey Delegate  Proposed New Jersey Plan which stated: All states should have same number of representatives equal power  Champion of small state interests

6 Edmund Randolph  Virginia Delegate  Proposed Virginia Plan which stated: Congress needed more power over states Executive Branch Judicial Branch Representatives should be based on population

7 Roger Sherman  Connecticut Delegate  Proposed the Great Compromise which stated: 2 houses (bicameral) Senate (2 reps. per state) House of Representatives (based on population) Divided the houses responsibilities
