18 Compare and contrast suffrage in the eastern and western states in the early 1800s. Eastern states granted suffrage to only white men who owned property. States farther west granted suffrage to all white men.

19 Why were slaves needed to grow and pick more cotton after the cotton gin was invented? The factories needed more raw cotton to make into cloth. More slaves were needed to grow and pick cotton because the demand for cotton increased

20 Why did railroads replace water routes as the preferred way to travel? The railroads were faster cheaper and more comfortable. People could also travel to places that they could not get to by water.

21 Who benefitted from the Industrial Revolution? Everyone involved in making goods by machine benefitted. Machines helped businesses make more goods at a cheaper cost. This allowed the businesses to make more products, earn more money, and hired more people, who could then buy the goods with the money they earned.
