Exponents QR Code Scavenger Hunt Your Mission: Find and solve the 10 QR code problems hidden around the room. To Complete Your Mission: 1.Shoulder partners will be working together to complete this activity. 2.Locate and open the QR scanner app on the iPad. 3.Partner A will be the person closest to the door. 4.Partner A: Find and scan a QR code. 5.Partner B: Copy and solve the problem from the code on the answer sheet provided. Match the problem number on the code to the box number on the answer sheet. 6.Partner A and Partner B: Switch jobs on steps 4 and 5 until all problems are solved. 7.When all 10 problems are solved, turn your answer sheet into the blue tray on the round table. Students will use an iPad to scan QR codes with problems involving the product and quotient rule for exponents. This task uses: iPad QR code scanner app Learning Objective(s): Simplify real number expressions by multiplying and dividing monomials. S SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement

Product and Quotient Rule – Exponents - Task Cards with QR Code Answers Your Mission: Solve and check the task cards at each station. To Complete Your Mission: 1.All group members will work together to complete all 4 stations, with 4 task cards each. 2.The group member closest to the teacher’s desk will choose a Zip-Lock station from the round table and bring it back to their table. 3.Each group member will choose a task card from the bag. Copy and solve the problem in the corresponding box on your answer sheet. 4.Check your answer by scanning the QR code in the corner of the task card. 5.When all group members complete their task cards, pass your task card to the left. 6.Continue this rotation until all 4 group members have solved and checked all four task cards. 7. One group member will return that station and pick up another from the round table. 8.Continue steps 3 – 7 until all 4 stations are complete. Students work problems on task cards. When complete, they scan the QR code on the corner of that card to check their answer. This task uses: iPads with QR code scanner Learning Objective(s): Simplify real number expressions by multiplying and dividing monomials. Create Word Problem using QR Codes. Your Mission: Author an original word problem and turn it into a QR code for your classmates to solve. To Complete Your Mission: 1.Face partners will be working together. 2.Brainstorm real-world situations that could be modeled by multiplication or division of monomials. (Look on Pages 23 – 29 in your book for ideas) 3.Create a word problem, using a scenario from your brainstorm. 4.Follow these steps to transform your word problem into a QR code. 1.Go to www.qrstuff.comwww.qrstuff.com 2.Choose “Plain Text” for your Data Type 3.Type your word problem into the box. Use the “^” character (shift 6) for exponents (Example: 2^3 represents two cubed, or two to the third power) 4.Download your QR code and save on your jump drive. 5.Go to my Blackboard and turn in your QR code to “Word Problem Assignment” under the 8 th Grade math tab. 6.When you finish submitting your code, have another group open their QR code from their jump drive, scan, and solve their word problem. Students will work in pairs to create a word problem involving multiplication and/or division of monomials. This task uses: Laptop iPad www.qrstuff.com Blackboard Learning Objective(s): Create a real-world example involving multiplication and/or division of monomials. Simplify real number expressions by multiplying and dividing monomials. M MODIFICATION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable

Comic Strip Your Mission: Create a comic strip to explain the product and quotient rule for monomials. To Complete Your Mission: 1.Diagonal partners will be working together. 2.Using PicCollage, create a comic strip explaining the quotient and product rules for monomials. 3.Create 3 different collages: 1 explaining the product rule, 1 explaining the quotient rule, and 1 comparing and contrasting the two rules. 4.You may use examples, pictures, and any other items of your choosing. 5.On each collage, include at least 1 example of the rule. 6.When you are complete with all 3 collages, you will post them to the discussion board in my Blackboard page. 7.After posting your collages, view at least one other entry. Post one positive comment as feedback to your classmates. Students will create a comic strip/collage describing the product and quotient rule for monomials. This task uses: iPad PicCollage Laptops Blackboard Learning Objective(s): Compare and contrast the quotient and product rule for monomials. Explain the product and quotient rule for monomials.
