Circulatory System The Circulatory System is composed of the Cardiovascular System and the Lymphatic System.

Circulatory System The Cardiovascular System is made up of the heart, the blood, and the blood vessels. The Heart: Pumps and circulates the blood. The blood: Carries the bodies nourishment and its defenses. The vessels: The blood is transported through them. To and from the heart.

Circulatory System The Heart: Located in the thoracic cavity, it is surrounded by the Pericardium. The heart is separated in two sides; a right and a left side. The upper chambers are atria and the lower ones are ventricles.

Circulation CIRCULATION OF THE HEART 1a. Superior vena Cava sends deoxygenated blood from upper body to right atrium. 1b. Inferior Vena Cava sends deoxygenated blood from lower body to right atrium. 2. Right atrium sends blood to the right ventricle. 3. Right ventricle sends blood to the pulmonary artery. 4. Pulmonary arteries send blood to the lungs. 5. Pulmonary veins return oxygenated blood to the left atrium from the lung. 6. Left atrium sends blood to the left ventricle. 7. Left ventricle sends blood to the aorta. 8. Aorta sends to all the body.

The Heart´s Pace The heart rhythm and pace is controlled by a tissue in the right atrium called the Sinoastrial node SA node or SAN.

Circulation PULMONARY CIRCULATION 1. In the lungs blood goes to the capillaries of the alveoli 2. Blood drops off CO2 and picks up O2 3. Oxygenated blood enters the left atrium through pulmonary veins.

Circulation SYSTEMIC CIRCULATION 1. Blood enters left atrium then moves to left ventricle. 2. Blood exits heart via aorta to circulate around the body. 3. It takes about a minute for blood to circulate body.

This creates the Pulse The pulse is the series of pressure waves within the artery caused by the action of the left ventricle.

Circulatory System Blood provides nourishment for cells. Red Blood Cells: Small and very uniform in size Carry oxygen and have short lifespan Plasma: Blood’s liquid medium composed of 90% water White Blood Cells: They are larger and rougher Protect the body of invading microorganisms Have a longer lifespan.

Circulatory system In the Lymphatic System transport Lymphs and extra fluid out of the tissues. Lymph: that distributes immune cells along with other factors throughout the body. The system includes: Lymph nodes (location of white blood cells), bone marrow, the spleen, and the thymus.

The path of air 1. Air enters through the nose. 2. Air is first filtered trough the nose hairs. 3. Air then passes through the trachea. 4. The trachea branches out into two main bronchi. 5. Bronchi split into bronchioles. 6. Air moves into the alveoli to be processed into oxygen. Alveoli Bronchioles

Exchange of Gas External Respiration: Is the exchange of gases in the atmosphere with the blood. Internal Respiration: Is the exchange of gases between the blood and the cells in the body.

Exchange of Gas Blood goes through the capillaries of the air sacs O2 and CO2 are exchanged Oxygenated blood goes back to the heart CO2 leaves the body.

Mechanisms of breathing Regulate oxygen intake. Brain stem stimulates diaphragm based on cell activity in the body.

¿HOW IT ALL TIES TOGETHER?
