Mandatory connection resolves situation. Fairness to all. Central services are provided. Many benefits. Water of high quality. Several awards from NC. Safe, reliable handling of sewage General move from septic for environmental benefit Treated effluent (better than received) Increased property values

5 Frequently Asked Questions 2. What is mandatory connection? Process used by cities, counties, authorities Pays for construction, maintenance of infrastructure Why? Plants, mains, pump stations cost millions. Allows costs to be spread over larger group, making them more affordable overall Enables extension of essential services to more areas

6 Frequently Asked Questions 3. Could I be exempt from this process? Yes, if a structure is more than 500’ from water or sewer main. If less than 500’ away, Connection Deferral applications are available for sewer connections ONLY: One 3-year deferral Must apply after 60 days after start of mandatory connection process (Slated for March/April 2016)

Charges/fees for water customers : Residential System Development Charge: $ 1,920 Residential Water Connection Fee : $ 2,100 Meter Set Fee : $ 250 Total : $ 4,270 Additional costs for the private plumbing from the home to the water meter are paid by the homeowner.

9 Frequently Asked Questions 5. How much does CFPUA charge? Charges/fees for sewer customers : Residential System Development Charge: $ 2,460 Residential Sewer Connection Fee: $ 2,200 Total:$ 4,760 Additional costs for the private plumbing from the home to the sewer tap are paid by the homeowner.

10 Frequently Asked Questions 6. Does CFPUA provide assistance? In addition to deferral process, CFPUA offers financing CFPUA Financing Option: Down payment required 5% APR for 8 years Minimal requirements: Customer in good standing. Charges/fees also payable through private loans

Opportunity to tell CFPUA desired location for tap Mark X for the tap on simple drawing of property Take into account: Location of driveway; Location of trees; Location of other structures; Location of current well and private lines. If no card is received, contractor will install in a logical location
