4 Niche Areas for Promotion of Organic Farming West Bengal Area: Darjeeling districts - Altitude wise prevalent Cropping pattern, North and South Bengal, Particularly in Tribal Areas Crops: Paddy and Maize, Finger Millets (for mid day meals), Orange, Turmeric, Ginger, Large Cardamom, Potatoes and Cole crops Manipur Area: All districts Crops: Cereals (Brown, Black scented rice), Maize, pulses Uttar Pradesh Area: 15 districts (7 in Bundelkhand, 8 others) Crops : Prevailing cropping system (pulses, oilseeds, millets, Kala Namak rice)

5 Niche Areas for Promotion of Organic Farming Mizoram Area: 6 districts (Aizawl, Lunglei, Kolasib, Mamit, Serchhip, Champhai) Crops: Ginger, Turmeric, Bird’s Eye Chilli (Ginger & Turmeric and Bird’s Eye Chilli as mixed Crop) Arunachal Pradesh Area: 8 districts (Hill and Plain) Crops: Paddy, Maize, Buckwheat, Millet, Pulses, Oilseeds, Vegetables, Cardamom, ginger, turmeric, chilli, Orange, pineapple, kiwi, apple, plum, banana, pears and tea Chhattisgarh Area: 27 districts in selected blocks, Datewada district (Mochobadi 134 village in 4 blocks) Crops: local aromatic rice, pulses, Kidney bean, minor millets …Contd.

6 Niche Areas for Promotion of Organic Farming Madhya Pradesh Area: 16 districts (Hilly and Tribal Area) Crops: Soyabean, minor millets, pulses (i.e. soyabean – urd – chilly –vegetables cropping system) Bihar Area: 14 rainfed districts (patna, nalanda, gaya, Aurangabad, rohatash, kaimur, Nawada, Jahanabad, arwal,Shekhpura, munger, Jamui, Banka, Lakhisarai), 1 flood prone district (Darbhanga) and planning for Diara Land (Vaishali) Crops: Vegetable crops (Potato, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Ladiesfinger, bitter gaured, Pea, Onion etc. ) …Contd.

9 Marketing policies States should have their own marketing policies. State policies should be guided by National Marketing policy. Quality parameters: Packing, labelling and quality control agency for both raw material and produce. Exclusive marketing outlets (i.e. haat bazar, separate stall, organic mandies) need to be created. Inclusion of organic products in the domain of e-NAM.

10 Production of organic seeds/ Planting Materials Protocol for certification of organic seed/planting material. Supply of certified organic breeder/foundation seeds for mass multiplication by ICAR/SAUs/Organic growers. Identification of National/State organic seed production/certification agencies.

11 Package of Practices (PoP) for Organic Farming Development of Crop-wise/Region-wise PoP Inclusion of organic input recommendations in Soil Health Card (SHC) Documentation and validation of organic practices by ICAR/SAUs
