Global Climate Change EFFECTS ON PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT BY PATRICIA SANCHEZ LOPEZ. HIGHSCHOOL GABINO BARREDA GROUP: 403-B.

IMPORTANCE OF THE EFFECTS ON THE PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT As the Earth keeps getting warmer, the neggative effects are expected to outweigh the possitive ones.

The more we learn about this, the more we can see why people need to take action. We can also take steps to prepare for changes we know are coming. IMPORTANCE OF THE EFFECTS ON THE PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT

SUBTOPICS  Health.  Agriculture.  Energy.  Water supplies.  Plants, animals and ecosystems.  Forests.  Coastal areas.  Recreation.

1. HEALTH TEMPERATURE-RELATED ILLNESSES Heat waves can be especially dangerous for infants, young children, the elderly and people who are already sick. Extreme heat can cause illnesses such as heat cramps, heat stroke and even death. WPCD? Take precautions on hot days to keep cool and set up wave warning systems.

HEALTH AIR POLLUTION SPREADING DISEASES WPCD? 1.Check the daily air quality forecast for their area and be careful outdoors. 2.Removing sources of standing water and the doctors have to know the symptoms and treats of the diseases. Bad ozone it’s the main ingredient of smog and harmful for people to breathe. More ozone is created when the temperature is warm. Ticks and mosquitoes that carry diseases can surive longer in warm temperatures, putting more people at risk.

2. AGRICULTURE CROP LOSSES Climate change could make it too hot to grow certain crops, and droughts caused by climate change could reduce the amount of water avaliable for irrigation. WPCD? Plant crops during different times of the year

3. ENERGY HYDROPOWER As climate changes causes precipitation patterns to shift, some areas that use it to make hydropower they won't be able to produce electricity. WPCD? Use less energy or finding other clean energy sources.

ENERGY AIRCONDITIONING People need to use more it to stay cool. MORE FOSSIL FUELS + MORE ELECTRICITY + GREENHOUSE GASES ADDED TO THE.. ATMOSPHERE WPCD? Plant trees near offices and homes to provide shade and keep them cool naturally.

4. WATER SUPPLIES LAKES, RIVERS AND STREAMS Many places rely on snowmelt to fill the lakes, rivers and streams that help keep drinking water reservoirs full and provide water to irrigate crops. WPCD? Adapt by using less water.

5. PLANTS, ANIMALS AND ECOSYSTEMS Most plants and animals live in areas with very specific climate conditions that enable them to survive. Any change can affect them as well as the makeup of the entire ecosystem. Some species are already responding. For example: migrations (animals) and changes in the life cycles (plants).

PLANTS, ANIMALS AND ECOSYSTEMS DISSAPEARING HABITATS NONO NONO 1OO YEARS ¼ WCPD? Just like people, animals will have to adapt. Humans can help them by protecting and preserving their habitats. If Earth keeps getting warmer, up to one-fourth of all the plants and animals could become extinct within 100 years. Every plant and animal plays a role in the ecosystem, so losing one species can affect many others.

6. FOREST They are sensitive to many effects of climate change, including shifting weather patterns, drought, wildfires and the spread of pests. Unfortunately trees can’t just get up and move when the temperature gets too hot! WCPD? Take extra precautions to prevent fires and being ready to manage fires when they do occur.

7. COASTAL AREAS COASTAL CITIES AND COASTAL WETLANDS. Basically floods. What people can do? Improve storm drainage systems andy build protective barriers where neccesary and not disturbing the ecosystems: the land, the flow of water or plants.

8. RECREATION In areas that usually experience cold winters, warmer temperatures could reduce opportunities for skiing, icefishing, and other winter sports. Also, rising sea level could wash away beaches. WCPD? 1.Be prepared for a shorter winter season. 2.Build sea walls to protect the shore from erosion.

CONCLUSION The global climate change will affect plants, animals, humans, the environment in which we live: the whole world. We all have to take action now to decrease (or at least make it happens slower). WE HAVE A RESPONSABILITY TO CARE FOR EACH OTHER. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
